Wheeler was 1-3 in 11 appearances with a 9.00 ERA for the Storm Chasers.

(3/28/13) Despite a stellar spring, the Royals reassigned reliever Dan Wheeler to minor-league camp Thursday, leaving the team with 29 players in major-league camp. Wheeler allowed just one run on 13 hits and one walk in 11 innings, posting a 0.82 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. He also had 14 strikeouts.
