|Chris Davis to stay fresh in instructional league |
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(9/15/14) Orioles slugger Chris Davis is expected to report to the organization's spring training complex in Sarasota, Fla., to play in some instructional league games while serving his 25-game suspension, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Davis tested positive for amphetamines and began serving his suspension Sept. 12. Instructional league games begin Monday and end Oct. 7. Davis is eligible to return Oct. 14 -- or Game 4 of the ALCS, provided the Orioles advance that far.
|Report: Chris Davis suspended for use of amphetamines |
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
(9/12/14) Orioles struggling slugger Chris Davis has been suspended for 25 games for testing positive for amphetamines, though the league has not made it official, per the Baltimore Sun.
The loss of Davis could prove critical to the Orioles in the postseason, who have all but locked up the American League East title. The team has already lost third baseman Manny Machado for the season to a knee injury.
Davis, however, has not lived up to the expectations forged in 2013, when he led the majors with 53 home runs. He owns a stat line of .196/.300/.404 with 26 home runs and 72 RBI. He does have five homers in his last 17 games.

(9/4/14) Orioles first baseman Chris Davis went 1 for 4 with a two-run home run in his team's 6-0 win over the Reds Wednesday.
Davis has endured a rough season at the plate, but he's picked things up offensively in his last 10 games, going 8 for 30 with eight walks, four home runs and 11 RBI. He still owns a .194/.300/.408 line with 25 home runs and 71 RBI in 422 at-bats.

(8/30/14) Orioles first baseman Chris Davis has found his power stroke recently, as he slugged his third home run in five games in a 9-1 win over the Twins Friday.
Weber broke the game open with his fourth inning home run, a grand slam that put the Orioles up fro good. He finished the game 1 for 3 with a walk, two runs scored and four driven in.
Davis' batting average continues to tumble, as he has just three hits over his last five games, but all have gone over the fence, helping his cause. He now has 24 home runs and 67 RBI in 407 at-bats on the season.
|Chris Davis blasts 22nd home run |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(8/25/14) Orioles first baseman Chris Davis belted his 22nd home run Monday against the Rays.
Davis struck in the fifth inning. He worked a three-pitch at-bat against Kirby Yates. On the final pitch, Davis clubbed a 91 mph fastball out to right center for a solo shot. He finished 1 for 3, with one run scored and one RBI.
|Chris Davis followed up his 33-homer breakout season in 2012 with an even bigger breakout in 2013, hitting .286 with 53 home runs, 42 doubles, a 1.004 OPS, and even four steals. He played in 160 games, despite a minor mid-season knee injury, and finished third in MVP voting. Last season marked the first time Davis played in more than 140 games. He was also afforded the luxury of playing just one position (as opposed to 2013, when he bounced between first base, DH, and corner outfield spots). There's plenty of hope for Davis to sustain this production -- the Orioles return the core of their 2013 lineup, and Davis is playing in a friendly home venue, with plenty of stats (both over the last two years and in the minors) to back up his output. Davis has vaulted himself into sure-fire first round status in drafts, and should draw $35-40 in auction formats.
