Tribe pleased with LaPorta's progress : Indians first baseman Matt LaPorta has put together a strong first month of the season at Triple-A Columbus. "We're not contemplating any moves right now," manager Manny Acta told MLB.com. "It's only been one month. We have to give everybody up here a fair shot." Through 21 games the 27-year-old LaPorta was hitting .380 with eight home runs, six doubles, 17 RBI and 17 runs scored. (Updated 05/02/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
LaPorta hit .247 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI in 107 games for the Indians last season, but was sent to the minors at the start of this season as the Tribe went to veteran Casey Kotchman. "It's not about the numbers," Acta said. "It's about the quality of the at-bats and what he's working on. They're encouraged by the fact that he's been using his legs better and laying off some off-speed stuff due to that. That's what we've looked at." If the Indians decide to bring LaPorta up, he'd be worth taking a flier on in AL-only formats to start out. (Updated 05/02/2012).
01/25/2012 10:27 2012 Fantasy outlooks: Cleveland Indians
The Indians were a huge surprise a year ago, remaining in contention in the AL Central until September. What can they offer Fantasy owners in 2012? Our Scott White takes a close look.
Remember when the Indians traded longtime ace CC Sabathia to the Brewers in the summer of 2008? Well, Matt LaPorta was the main player they got in return. Safe to say that one hasn't worked out so well. LaPorta has gotten every opportunity to break through as the middle-of-the-order slugger he was projected to be when the Brewers took him seventh overall in the 2007 draft, spending the last two seasons as the Indians' primary first baseman, and at best, he has performed like a poor man's Garrett Jones. The Indians have apparently grown tired of waiting for LaPorta to develop, as they signed Casey Kotchman this offseason, and the former Ray is now considered the everyday starter at first base. Because he's just entering his prime, LaPorta could still flip the switch one day and break through as a Fantasy mainstay, but now that he's back in the minors, he should go undrafted in all but the deepest of Fantasy formats.
