Rockies' Weiss: Brooks Brown 'has the stuff to pitch late in games'

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/16/15) Rockies manager Walt Weiss praised the work of pitcher Brooks Brown, who hasn't allowed a run in 4 2/3 innings, the Denver Post reports.

"He's a really valuable piece in our bullpen, and I think he will be pitching late in games," Weiss said. "He did at times last year, even though we were just getting to know him. The thing is, Brooks can go multiple innings too, so we use him in that role. But he has the stuff to pitch late in games."

Brown has pitched no later than the seventh inning in each of his first four appearances, racking up two strikeouts while giving up just one hit and one walk. He posted a 2.77 ERA and 21:5 K:BB ratio in 26 innings in his first major-league action last season.

Career minor leaguer Brooks Brown makes first Opening Day roster

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(4/3/15) After reaching the major leagues for the first time last season, Brooks Brown, an eight-year minor league veteran, will make his first Opening Day roster when he begins the season on the Rockies' pitching staff, according to MLB.com.

"It was really humbling, appreciative," Brown said of his emotions when manager Walt Weiss told him this week he would open the year in the big leagues. "It's been a long ride and I'm just really excited to have a good year last year and come into Spring Training this year and have a good Spring Training and pick up where I left off."

Brown had pitched in the Diamondbacks, Tigers and Pirates organizations before joining the Rockies following the 2013 season.

Rockies pitcher Brooks Brown set to make spring debut Thursday

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/4/15) Rockies pitcher Brooks Brown is considered one of Colorado's top options this season. What has many people excited is the velocity Brown has on his fastball. But what he wants to work on the most this spring, and the pitch that kept hitters on their toes, is his changeup.

"The more success I was having with it, the more aggressiveness I had with it," said Brown. "It was a pitch I'd always had, but by the All-Star break last year, I found I could throw it to right-handed and left-handed hitters. It became a put-away pitch."

Rockies pitching coach Darren Holmes thinks his changeup should be considered as good as his fastball.

"Brooks came up last year and did a great job," Rockies bullpen coach Darren Holmes said. "When you look at guys that don't throw as hard, for me, my good secondary pitch is a changeup. That's a complete equalizer, I don't care if you throw 85 or you throw 105."

Rockies play musical chairs with three players

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(8/16/14) The Rockies have recalled pitcher Brooks Brown from the minors Saturday.

In order to make room on the roster, the club optioned infielder Ben Paulsen to Triple-A. Pitcher Tommy Kahnle was placed on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. Michael Cuddyer was activated from the DL Saturday, filling Kahnle's roster spot.

Rockies swap pitchers in bullpen Thursday

by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com
(8/7/14) The Rockies called up pitcher Juan Nicasio from Triple-A Colorado Springs Thursday, after sending Brooks Brown down.

Nicasio appeared in 14 games for the Rockies earlier in the season, posting a 5.92 ERA as a starter. He is expected to pitch out of the bullpen moving forward.
