Fantasy Analysis
McKenry is batting .333 on the year and has just his lone RBI. Being a backup catcher doesn't bring a ton of Fantasy value. McKenry played a career-high 58 games with the Pirates in 2011 and should get to around there this season. But in terms of production, McKenry doesn't do enough at the plate to warrant any Fantasy attention. (Updated 04/13/2012).
05/18/2012 21:53 Verlander's near no-hitter carries Tigers
Justin Verlander came within two outs of his third career no-hitter, allowing only Josh Harrison's ninth-inning single in the Detroit Tigers' 6-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday night.
Michael McKenry was traded to two different teams in 2011 and was able to make an impact with one of them. After going from the Rockies to the Red Sox during the spring, Pittsburgh acquired him after Chris Snyder and Ryan Doumit went down in June and gave him some decent playing time. McKenry played in a career-high 58 games, hitting .222 with two homers and 11 RBI. He has been working on his offense this offseason and enters 2012 as the backup to Rod Barajas. He will likely see action behind the plate a couple times per week, but given his limited offensive upside, plan on leaving the 26-year-old for the deepest of NL-only formats on Draft Day. He will more than likely go undrafted. (Updated 1/12/12)
