Fantasy Analysis
Blanks started 2011 in the minors as he was coming back from elbow surgery. But he tore up the minors and finally got recalled. While Blanks still showed great power, he hit just .229 in 55 games and struck out 51 times with San Diego. Blanks is only 25 years old, but he still has some holes in his swing. He appears to be an all-or-nothing hitter. If he ever puts it all together, then he could be a very productive hitter. But it's best to view Blanks as a late-round Fantasy option in deep formats, if he lands a starting spot with San Diego. (Updated 01/15/2012).
10/21/2011 06:12 Rizzo, Singleton highlight 2012 first base prospects
Will Anthony Rizzo be the answer for the Padres in 2012? PETCO Park offers some pause for conern, but Scott White says the upside is huge in his look at the top first base prospects for 2012.
Kyle Blanks began last season in the minors while he continued to recover from Tommy John surgery and continued to punish minor-league pitching once returning. He batted a combined .312 with 15 home runs and 62 RBI between two stops and was called up by the Padres in late July. But his struggles in the majors did not change as Blanks hit just .229. While he posted seven home runs, 26 RBI and a .300 on-base percentage in the majors, he could not hit as consistently as he had down on the farm. With the additions of Carlos Quentin and Yonder Alonso in the offseason, Blanks will have to win a starting job during the spring or he could be ticketed to start the 2012 campaign in the minors again. The 25-year-old still has some decent upside at age 25 but plan on leaving Blanks for NL-only formats on Draft Day. (Updated 2/8/12)
