(1/17/14) Padres outfielder Kyle Blanks has avoided arbitration with the club.

|Kyle Blanks bothered by Achilles and shoulder |
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
(9/26/13) Padres outfielder Kyle Blanks was held out Thursday's lineup against the Diamondbacks because of Achilles and shoulder discomfort. He was also pulled Wednesday by manager Bud Black for rest and defensive purposes, according to MLB.com.
"Kyle is a little banged up but he's able to play," Black said. "I just thought today would be a good day for him to watch this one from the start and see where it ends up. There is a good chance he might be in there at some point in this game."
|Kyle Blanks plays through illness |
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
(9/19/13) Padres outfielder Kyle Blanks was not in the starting lineup Wednesday against the Pirates, but he was able to play just one day after leaving due to an illness. He was hitless in his lone trip to the plate as a pinch-hitter, and remained in the game to play right field after his at-bat in a 3-2 win.

|Tommy Medica outplaying Kyle Blanks |
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
(9/16/13) Padres first baseman Tommy Medica, who homered for a second time since his mid-September call-up Sunday at Atlanta, was in the lineup for a sixth straight game Monday at Pittsburgh. His arrival has reduced Kyle Blanks to being just a part-time outfielder.
Medica, 25, hit .296 with a .372 on-base percentage 18 homers in 280 at-bats at Double-A San Antonio this year. Blanks is hitting just .222 (8 for 36) with no homers in 11 games since returning from an Achilles injury.
|Kyle Blanks was always a player that could hit the baseball a country mile in the minors. Sadly, he's never been able to transfer that success over to the major-league level. We have seen flashes of his power potential, but injuries and a poor contact rate have prevented Blanks from breaking out. Blanks appeared in just 88 games for San Diego last season, batting .243 with eight home runs, 14 doubles and 35 RBI. He's batting .228 with a .404 slugging percentage in 234 MLB games, which is a stark contrast from his .303 average and .511 slugging percentage in 553 minor-league games. Blanks might play his way onto the Padres' roster as a backup first baseman/outfielder, but he's only worth a look in deep NL-only Fantasy formats.
