Blue Jays 3B Josh Donaldson finally gets a day off Friday
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(5/22/15) Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson will get his first day off this season, as he is being held out of the lineup on Friday against the Mariners. Donaldson has hit well lately, batting .270 with two home runs and seven RBI over his last 10 games, batting solely out of the top two spots in the lineup.
Manager John Gibbons said Donaldson, who has started each of the team's first 43 games this year, has been playing on a "bad calf" and was looking to give him a day off, acording to SportsNet.
Danny Valencia will get the start at the hot corner, while Ezequiel Carrera will move up to the leadoff spot the batting order.
Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar gets first day off this year on Wednesday
|by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer|
|(5/20/15) Blue Jays outfielder will be held out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. Pillar, who has started every game for the Jays so far this year, is really struggling at the plate. He is just 6 for 40 with just one extra-base hit over his last 10 games.
Ezequiel Carrera will handle center field and bat sixth on Wednesday. Pillar should be available as a late-inning option for manager John Gibbons if necessary.
Blue Jays' Devon Travis held out of lineup
|by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com|
|(5/12/15) Blue Jays second baseman Devon Travis is not in the starting lineup on Tuesday. It's the first time in 10 games that Travis hasn't led off or started at second.
Manager John Gibbons said that it was just a day off for Travis. He admitted that the rookie is a little "banged up" but said he was fine. "He could use a day off," Gibbons said, per the Toronto Star.
Steve Tolleson replaces Travis at second base. It's Tolleson's first start of the year at the position and just his fourth start of the season at any spot for the Jays. Tolleson bats ninth.
Replacing Travis in the leadoff spot is left fielder Ezequiel Carrera. It's Carrera's first time leading off this season and the first time he's hit higher than seventh in the order. Carrera becomes the Blue Jays' fourth leadoff man of the season.
Blue Jays to sit Bautista on Monday, start Carrera in left
|by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer|
|(5/11/15) The Blue Jays will sit outfielder/designated hitter Jose Bautista Monday in Baltimore and set their outfield with Chris Colabello in right field, Ezequiel Carrera in left and start Edwin Encarnacion at DH.
Bautista, who has been dealing with a sore shoulder, has started 12 of the last 13 games for the Blue Jays at DH.
Bautista has also struggled against the Orioles starting pitcher for Monday, Ubaldo Jimenez, going 2 for 29 in his career.
Carrera will make his first start of the season in left, as all six of his starts this season have been in right.
