|Ruben Tejada silences critics for at least one day |
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
(10:40 am ET) Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada returned to the starting lineup during Wednesday's 11-2 win against the Phillies, and for one day at least quieted the speculation he might get supplanted at shortstop by Wilmer Flores.
Tejada went 3 for 4 with one run, one RBI and one walk in the win. He entered the game mired in a 4-for-38 slump in his previous 14 games.

(7/24/14) Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada is expected to return to the starting lineup Friday, according to ESPN.
Tejada was hit in the head by a pitch during Wednesday's game, and sat out Thursday. The injury is not considered serious, and manager Terry Collins was just trying to be cautious with his shortstop. "We thought we’d give him one more day just as a precaution," Collins said. "He feels great. Said he could play, but we’ll just give him today and get him back in there tomorrow."
Tejada is hitting .235 over 260 at-bats.

(7/23/14) Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada checked out OK after being hit in the head by a pitch Wednesday, the New York Daily News reports.
Tejada is likely to miss at least one game, but the team probably won't have to make a roster move to bring up another shortstop. He went 0 for 1 before exiting Wednesday's game, giving him a .235/.358/.292 line with two home runs and 22 RBI in 260 at-bats.
|The Mets were passive on acquiring a shortstop in the offseason, appearing content to open the season with Ruben Tejada as the starter. It comes a season after the team seemed ready to give up on Tejada after an in-season demotion to the minors. It got to a point where general manager Sandy Alderson even called out Tejada for a poor work ethic. Nonetheless, the Mets are ready to give Tejada once last chance after he hit just .202 with 10 RBI and 12 doubles in 57 games last season. Tejada was playing every day until suffering a right quadriceps strain in late May. When he was ready to return in early July, he was demoted to the minors and didn't return until mid-September. Tejada was starting regularly upon his recall, but he lasted just seven games and was out for the rest of the season after breaking his right leg in a collision with outfielder Andrew Brown. The Mets appear to be chalking up Tejada's struggles to his inexperience as a young player, but Fantasy owners don't have to worry about missing on Tejada. He doesn't have great offensive upside, so he's more of an NL-only Fantasy option on Draft Day.
