Preseason Outlook

After a dominant season at Triple-A Charlotte in which he posted a 2.39 ERA and struck out more than a batter per inning, Torres got a call to the majors last season, making five starts and three relief appearances. He had his moments, but he mostly struggled with a 6.04 ERA. At age 27, he's either a late bloomer or he spent so much time in the minors that he got good at it. We're banking on the latter. He doesn't figure to win a rotation spot this spring, but even if he comes up later in the year, he's just a low-end AL-only option. (Updated 2/2/10)
