| Time to go streaking with Chris Johnson |
by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer (5/30/13) Braves third baseman Chris Johnson is currently hitting .346 with 10 doubles, and, at 32 percent ownership, will likely be among the most added players by the end of the week, thanks to Juan Francisco being cut loose. But beware of Johnson's tendency to produce in a series of streaks.
So far this year, Johnson has three home runs; two have come in a five game stretch. He also has two six-game stretches of batting .500 (April 10 to 17, May 13 to 22). In 2012, Johnson saw his average dip slightly, then rise sharply after these mini-stretches of awesomeness. His season in a microcosm: after a July trade from Houston to Arizona, Johnson hit .345 with five home runs in his first eight games. He then hit .179 over his next 19 games.
Johnson will have a ton of value as the everyday starter for a high-powered offense and can be owned in 12-team formats, but be aware that there are ups and downs. Johnson should end up hitting about .270-.280 with 12-15 home runs when it's all said and done. Getting there, however, will be a fun ride for his owners in weekly H2H formats.

| Chris Johnson in line for more starts |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/30/13) With the Braves designating Juan Francisco for assignment Thursday, third baseman Chris Johnson is likely to see more starts.
As recently as Wednesday, manager Fredi Gonzalez was telling reporters that Johnson and Francisco were still in a "soft platoon," but Johnson is likely to play nearly everyday moving forward. He had started just 22 games at third base, compared to 29 by Francisco.
The Braves have started just one other player at third base this season, Ramiro Pena, who received one start in April.

| Chris Johnson still stroking in platoon role |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/28/13) Braves infielder Chris Johnson was not in the starting lineup Tuesday against the Blue Jays, and that day off seems to be just about the only way to keep him from racking up hits recently.
Though Johnson did go 0 for 1 in a pinch-hitting appearance in Tuesday's game, he still has hits in eight of his last 10 games, including four multi-hit games. Johnson is batting .483 in 29 at-bats over that stretch.
Johnson has credited his hot stretch with simply reaching a comfort level in his fourth major-league season.
"I feel good. I feel calm," Johnson told MLB.com. "Just trying to get a good pitch and not do too much with it, and it seems to be working. The first step is making sure you're comfortable when you step up to the plate. I've been able to stay there for a little while right now, and things are going well."

| Chris Johnson no longer struggling vs. lefties |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/19/13) After hitting .245 against left-handed pitchers in 2012, the Braves had concerns for third baseman Chris Johnson heading into the season. Those concerns seem to have disappeared since Johnson entered Sunday against the Dodgers with a major-league leading .435 average (20 for 46) against left-handed pitchers.
"There's a couple things I've had trouble against lefties with, and I've just been trying to eliminate that and not even worry about that," Johnson said to MLB.com. "It's been working. I've just got to continue focusing on going up the middle and going the other way."
Johnson entered the season with a career .283 average against right-handed pitchers and a .255 average against left-handers. He's now batting .277 in his career against lefties.
"I think I used to just feel more comfortable with lefties out there, rather than having to face a tough righty," Johnson said. "I'd be like, 'Oh, I feel so good, I'm going to homer off this guy.' Then the next thing you know, I'm 0 for 4."

| Chris Johnson's numbers tailing off in May |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/14/13) Braves third baseman Chris Johnson had a big performance against his former team Monday against the Diamondbacks. Johnson, who arrived in an offseason trade, was 3 for 4 with one home run, one double and three RBI.
Johnson snapped a 0-for-18 skid with a single in the third inning, the Braves' first hit. He hit a two-run homer to cap Atlanta's three-run fifth inning and added a out-out double in the sixth inning. he now has three home runs, eight doubles and 12 RBI.
Johnson is batting .143 (3 for 21) through seven May games after batting .369 in 22 April games.

| Chris Johnson played 44 games with the Diamondbacks after a July trade and immediately began hammering the ball. His power streak eventually died down, but he finished his 147 at-bat stint with Arizona sporting a .286 average with seven home runs and 35 RBI. After being included in the January deal that sent Justin Upton to Atlanta, Johnson currently projects as the starting third baseman for the Braves -- the heir apparent to Chipper Jones -- and, while he isn't the most exciting player in Fantasy, he does have the ability to hit for a nice average (around .270). Given regular at-bats, Johnson could also hit 15-18 home runs. Consider him the poor man's Todd Frazier or Will Middlebrooks. Decent average, decent power, but not enough in either category to have much value outside of NL-only leagues. (Updated 1/24/13) |
