| Dylan Axelrod has back-to-back wins |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (12:04 am ET) White Sox starter Dylan Axelrod has earned back-to-back victories for his first two wins of the season after taking down the Red Sox Monday at home. Axelrod improved to 2-3 on the year.
The Chicago starter threw 83 pitches and allowed just two earned runs on four hits and a walk over six solid innings. He struck out two and was hurt by a Jarrod Saltalamacchia two-run homer in the third. Otherwise, the Red Sox could do little against him.
The 27-year-old Axelrod has given up five runs over 11 1/3 innings for back-to-back wins. His ERA is now at 4.13 and he's struck out just 28 over 52 1/3 innings. Axelrod makes his next start Sunday against Miami.

| Dylan Axelrod earns first win |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/15/13) White Sox starter Dylan Axelrod picked up his first victory of the year Wednesday afternoon in Minnesota. Axelrod was able to minimize the Twins' offense to move to 1-3 for Chicago in the 9-4 win.
The starter gave up a run apiece in the first and second innings, including Eduardo Escobar's solo homer, but allowed just one more run the rest of the way as he went 5 1/3 frames. He allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk with four strikeouts. Axelrod threw 104 pitches and his ERA is now at 4.27.
The 27-year-old, who entered Wednesday's outing having lost back-to-back starts, has been able to consistently work into the sixth and seventh innings. He's just not getting a ton of run support and every now and then gets hit hard.
Axelrod will make his next scheduled start Monday against the Red Sox.

| Dylan Axelrod outdueled for second loss |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (5/4/13) White Sox pitcher Dylan Axelrod turned in his fourth straight quality start on Saturday against the Royals but it was not enough to overcome his counterpart -- Jeremy Guthrie. He allowed two runs on eight hits over 7 2/3 innings in a 2-0 loss.
The right-hander gave up a two-run triple to Lorenzo Cain in the first for his lone damage. He was pulled after a Salvador Perez single in the eighth and threw 70 of his 113 pitches for strikes while lowering his ERA to 3.60.
Axelrod also walked one with no strikeouts while taking his second loss.
His next start is scheduled for Friday against the Angels.

| White Sox set pitching rotation following rainout |
by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com (5/3/13) The White Sox have reset their rotation in the wake of Friday's rainout against Kansas City. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Dylan Axelrod will pitch Saturday, Jose Quintana will go Sunday and Jake Peavy will pitch the scheduled makeup Monday afternoon if he is recovered from the back injury that scratched him from his last start.
The report said Peavy is a possibility for Monday. Hector Santiago is the most likely replacement if Peavy can't pitch.

| Last season was a bit of a disappointing one for Dylan Axelrod, as he failed to translate stellar minor league numbers into any kind of success in the majors. Over 14 games, Axelrod had a 5.47 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. In seven starts, he had a 5.03 ERA. This all stood in stark contrast to a career 2.81 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 183 minor league appearances. Axelrod is slated for long relief duty for 2013. Keeper league owners may want to consider him later on, as the rotation has some question marks, but don't expect Axelrod to pay immediate dividends for your Fantasy team in 2013. (Updated 1/8/13) |
