Athletics, Eric Sogard avoid arbitration
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(1/23/15) The Athletics and infielder Eric Sogard have agreed to a one-year, $1.075 million deal, avoiding arbitration, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman on Friday. Sogard hit .223/.298/.268 with one home run, 22 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 291 at-bats last season.
Report: A's swap arbitration numbers with Abad, Sogard
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(1/16/15) Athletics pitcher Fernando Abad has filed for $1.225 million in arbitration, while second baseman Eric Sogard has filed for $1.425 million, Fangraphs reports.
The team has offered $850,000 to Abad, who posted a 1.57 ERA and 51:15 K:BB ratio in 57 1/3 innings in 2014. The team also offered $900,000 to Sogard, who hit .223/.298/.268 with one home run, 22 RBI and 11 stolen bases in 291 at-bats. Both players are in their first year of arbitration eligibility.
Eric Sogard smacks first home run Wednesday

|(8/6/14) Athletics infielder Eric Sogard went 1 for 3 with a solo home run in his team's 7-3 loss to the Rays Wednesday.
Sogard collected first home run of the season in the sixth inning Wednesday, but it was only enough to decrease his team's deficit to six runs. He has hit .207/.286/.261 with 12 RBI and eight stolen bases in 188 at-bats.
Scuffling Eric Sogard out of Saturday lineup
|by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com|
|(5/17/14) Slumping Athletics second baseman Eric Sogard is not in the lineup for the Saturday night game in Cleveland. Nick Punto will man the position instead.
Sogard has gone hitless in eight of the last 10 games in which he has had at least one plate appearance. His 3-for-33 slide in May has lowered his batting average from .217 to .172.
A's appear content with middle-infield alignment
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(1/29/14) The Athletics are not considering signing shortstop Stephen Drew and moving Jed Lowrie to second base, sources told FOX Sports.
The A's appear comfortable with an Eric Sogard and Nick Punto platoon at second base. Also, some evaluators believe Lowrie might be more of a defensive liability at second base than he is at shortstop.
Solid defense earned Eric Sogard
92 starts last season, 80 of which occurred at second base. In fact, Sogard was the Athletics' primary second baseman. He still amassed just 329 plate appearances, and with a .223 batting average and one home run, he offered little to Fantasy owners. Sogard did steal 11 bases in 15 attempts, coming through with his second straight season with double-digit steals.
Playing time status: Sogard stands to get the bulk of the starts at second base in Oakland, and with Alberto Callaspo out of the mix, he should see more regular playing time.
2015 outlook: Stolen bases are the only category in which Sogard has a chance to contribute, and he won't likely make enough of an impact there to merit a draft pick in mixed leagues. Sogard is a last-resort option for owners in AL-only leagues.
