Fantasy Analysis
It's been an interesting few months for De Los Santos. He went from being a candidate to close games to a seldom-used reliever and is now in the minors. De Los Santos hasn't recorded an out in his last three appearances, so it seems he needs to work on getting his confidence back. The A's feel De Los Santos has the makeup to close games one day, but he has minimal Fantasy appeal until that happens. Feel free to drop him in all formats while he toils in the minors. Fautino De Los Santos got his first shot at the majors last season and could have a huge role in the A's bullpen in 2012. He went 3-2 with a 4.32 ERA in 34 appearances a year ago and struck out 43 in 33 1/3 innings. With Andrew Bailey being traded in the offseason, the right-hander was competing with Grant Balfour and Brian Fuentes for the closer role early in spring training, but with Balfour ultimately winning the job, De Los Santos will have to serve as a setup man for now. The 25-year-old has good enough stuff that he could still emerge as the long-term option for the role, unseating Balfour at some point during the season, but because that's hardly a guarantee, you shouldn't bother with De Los Santos outside of deeper AL-only leagues.
