Preseason Outlook

Anderson didn't have a real eye-opening rookie season, but there are some definite signs the A's have a future ace on their hands. Consider what he did as a 21-year-old last season and you might even believe he can become a top 10 Fantasy starting pitcher in time. That is not out of the question, even if he is a long shot at reaching that potential in Year 2. Anderson outshined fellow rookie Trevor Cahill on his own team, especially in the second half, going 6-4 with a 3.48 ERA, .256 batting-average against and around a strikeout per inning. It is that stretch many Fantasy owners will remember when they target him in the middle rounds. Like most young pitching, especially on a rebuilding team like the A's, though, Anderson figures to be a little bit of a risk if you are tempted to pick him among the top 60 Fantasy starting pitchers. He could be a solid pick-up after that point, though. (Updated 1/11/10)
