| Jason Heyward manages another two-hit game |

(5/22/13) Braves outfielder Jason Heyward went 2 for 4 in Tuesday's win over Minnesota.
Both hits were singles, but Heyward still managed to score twice and knock in a run. Heyward is hitting just .173 but he has seven hits in six games since returning from the disable list.

(5/22/13) Braves outfielder Jason Heyward went 2 for 5 with two runs scored Tuesday against Minnesota.
Heyward doubled as well. He's now 5 for 19 with two doubles since returning from the disabled list. Although he hasn't homered since his return, a .263 average and .391 on-base percentage are a far sight better than the respective .121 and .261 marks he carried into his DL stint.

(5/17/13) Yes, Jason Heyward is back in the Braves' lineup, but that's probably not the most exciting news to his Fantasy owners considering he was batting .121 at the time of his appendectomy in late April. Pretty frustrating.
What's worse is he just looked uncomfortable at the plate, and as we saw in 2011, when his mechanics get out of whack, they're not so easy to fix.
Hopefully, the time away gave him a chance to study film and get his swing right. If he looks halfway decent over the weekend, you'll want to get him active in Fantasy Week 8 (May 20-26). Right now, the Braves are projected to face nothing but right-handers, and they're some of the more hittable pitchers in the Twins and Mets rotations.

(5/17/13) As expected, the Braves activated outfielder Jason Heyward from the 15-day disabled list Friday, in time for their game against the Dodgers.
Heyward has been out since April 22 due to an emergency appendectomy. He is in the starting lineup for Friday's game, batting second and playing right field.

(5/17/13) The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Friday that Braves outfielder Jason Heyward is expected to be activated and in the starting lineup Friday when the team opens a series with the Dodgers.
Heyward has been on the disabled list since April 22 due to an appendectomy.

| And with that, the Braves front office can breathe a sigh of relief. Long-term keeper owners are free to exhale as well. Jason Heyward -- who after an impressive showing as a rookie in 2010 fell flat on his face in 2011 -- came roaring back with his first ever 20-20 campaign in 2012. Most likely, no one variable was completely responsible for the turnaround, but improved health was probably the biggest factor. Heyward played almost all of 2011 with numbness in his right shoulder, and it altered his swing, leading to a disproportionate number of pop-ups and grounders. Not only were those rates back to normal in 2012, but Heyward's line drive rate was up as well, meaning he's squaring up the ball even better than he did as a rookie. Granted, not everything went right for him in 2012. He fell well short of the freakish number of walks he drew as a rookie, and he struck out 152 times. So basically, he was closer to what you'd expect from a player in his early 20s. Heyward arrived with so much hype in 2010 that he'll have a hard time living up to everyone's expectations in these early stages of his career, but if nothing else, his 2012 confirmed that he's well on his way. With the possibility of another step forward in 2013, he's worth targeting among the top 10 outfielders. (Updated 12/5/12) |
