D-Backs' Cahill feeling good despite so-so minor-league outing
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(3/27/15) Diamondbacks starting pitcher Trevor Cahill allowed four runs in 5 2/3 innings during a minor-league start Thursday, according to The Arizona Republic. Cahill, who is competing for a spot in the rotation, said he pitched better than his stat line indicated.
"I was able, for the most part, to keep the ball on the ground," he said. "I felt like I didn't make too many mistakes and the ones I did, they hit. That's going to happen."
Cahill, who has a 4.50 ERA through three spring starts, said he feels better about his command and ability to repeat his delivery than in past years.
"I think the misses are a lot better," he said. "They're competitive misses. They're not yanks in the other batter's box. Most of the misses are down, which leaves less room to get hurt."
Diamondbacks' Trevor Cahill could be in line for spot in starting rotation

|(3/15/15) Diamondbacks pitcher Trevor Cahill threw a strong four innings Sunday in a "B" game, allowing just two unearned runs, leading manager Chip Hale to hint that he could be in the starting rotation when the season begins, reports MLB.com.
"I was able to get my offspeed [pitches] over for strikes, which was promising," Cahill said. "I feel early on in camp, I wasn't able to throw a changeup or a curve except in the dirt. So that was good."
Cahill adjusted his mechanics in the offseason, trying to fix his arm angle on delivery.
I felt like it was consistent," Cahill said of his arm angle Sunday. "I felt like from the get-go it might have been a touch lower, but it was consistent the whole time. Some days I think, no matter what, I'm just going to go wherever I'm comfortable and try to maintain that. As long as it's not dropping as the game goes on and it is consistent from the first pitch to the last pitch, I'll be happy with that."
Diamondbacks manager impressed with Trevor Cahill, Archie Bradley
|by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com|
|(3/10/15) Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale is liking what competition for a spot in the starting rotation is bringing him, reports MLB.com. Tuesday, Trevor Cahill and Archie Bradley both threw in Arizona's game against the Athletics and liked what he saw from them.
"Trevor threw some good pitches," Hale said. "He was up a little bit early on and got a little bit quick, but the second inning was really good. His stuff was pretty good. There was some progress."
Cahill was a bit nervous in his first inning of work.
"First inning, I kind of got some jitters out, and then I was able to kind of calm down. I think the best thing was I was able to get some offspeed [pitches] over for strikes, which was tough last game," Cahill said. "With the different arm slot, I just had to set my sights a little different, so I was able to kind of figure out where to aim it to get it over for a strike."
Bradley felt confident throughout, allowing one run over his 2 1/3 innings.
"I felt like I threw the ball well," Bradley said. "A little uncomfortable out of the stretch, but overall I felt like I threw the ball very well."
Diamondbacks' Trevor Cahill shows off new mechanics

|(3/5/15) Diamondbacks pitcher Trevor Cahill showed off his new mechanics against the Rockies on Thursday.
Cahill gave up two hits and one walk over two scoreless innings of work. The 27-year-old came into camp competing for a spot in the rotation, but has impressed thus far. In order to make the club, Cahill overhauled his mechanics. After his first start, he came away encouraged.
"I could definitely tell there is some stuff," Cahill said. "Just where I have to set my sights on pitches has to change a little bit, because the ball doesn't run as much."
Cahill posted a 5.61 ERA over 110 2/3 innings last season.
