| Trevor Cahill drops third straight |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (6/15/13) Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill, who allowed eight runs in his previous start, bounced back with a decent outing but suffered his eighth loss of the season Friday night against the Padres.
Cahill (3-8) pitched five scoreless innings before surrendering a two-run single to Logan Forsythe in the sixth inning. He permitted two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out 10 in 5 2/3 innings in a 2-1 loss.
Cahill has lost three consecutive starts. He has allowed 22 runs over his last 28 1/3 innings during that span. He is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday at home against Miami.

| Trevor Cahill shows he's the same old pitcher |
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer (6/11/13) After posting a 2.48 ERA and 1.17 WHIP over his first nine starts and seemingly curing whatever plagued him at home last year, Diamondbacks right-hander Trevor Cahill seemed like he was poised for a breakout season, overcoming his past inconsistencies to meet the full extent of his top prospect pedigree at age 25.
But just like that, he has a 4.02 ERA and 1.31 WHIP, even worse marks than during his disappointing first season with the Diamondbacks last year.
Granted, matchups are partially to blame. Over his last four starts, which is when his numbers began to tumble, he has faced four of the majors' better offensive teams in Colorado, Texas, St. Louis and San Francisco. But if consistency was the basis for his supposed breakout, a lack of consistency, regardless of the matchups, is a deal-breaker -- especially for a pitcher striking out just 5.7 batters per nine innings.
Cahill is back to being just a marginal mixed-league option. In my rankings, he's 62 and falling.

| Trevor Cahill roughed up by Giants |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (6/9/13) Diamondbacks starter Trevor Cahill endured his worst start of the season as he suffered his seventh loss of the season Saturday night against the Giants. Cahill (3-7) was shelled for eight runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out three in 3 2/3 innings pitched in a 10-5 loss.
Cahill has allowed 13 earned runs combined in his last two starts (8 2/3 innings). He is scheduled to make his next start Friday at San Diego. He is 2-3 with a 4.09 ERA in five starts away from Chase Field.

| Trevor Cahill gives up five runs in loss |
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com (6/3/13) Diamondbacks starting pitcher Trevor Cahill surrendered five earned runs on nine hits and three walks in five innings of work Monday against the Cardinals without striking out a batter.
It was Cahill's first five-run performance of the season, and it drops his record to 3-6 while giving him a 3.27 ERA through 77 innings. He'll draw the Giants at home Saturday in his next start.

| Trevor Cahill goes eight strong in no-decision |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/28/13) Diamondbacks starting pitcher Trevor Cahill went eight innings strong but did not factor in the decision in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader against the Rangers.
Cahill allowed a run-scoring single to A.J. Pierzynski and a sacrifice fly to Craig Gentry in the sixth. He was charged with four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in a 5-4 victory.
Cahill has allowed nine runs -- eight earned -- combined over his last three starts (22 innings). He is scheduled to make his next start Sunday on the road against the Cubs. He is 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA in his last two starts at Wrigley Field.

| There's an interesting dichotomy with Trevor Cahill that is unique to Fantasy. Head-to-Head players may remember Cahill as a marginal pitcher in 2012. He gave up four runs or more in 11 of his 32 starts and didn't exactly endear himself to owners who got good, but not great, weeks from him. But Roto players saw a different Cahill in 2012, one who finished the year with a 3.78 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a career-high 156 strikeouts. He eclipsed 195 innings for the third straight season and, even with a move to a smaller park, had a career-low in home runs allowed with 16. Granted, Cahill's more glaring dichotomy was that he ended up being a far better pitcher on the road (2.91 ERA) than at home (4.68 ERA), but add it all together -- or take advantage of the splits -- and you had a very good pitcher. He should be drafted in the later part of middle rounds in 2013. (Updated 12/4/12) |
