|(6/11/15) Braves pitcher Trevor Cahill was designated for assignment Thursday to clear a roster spot for reliever Dana Eveland.
The veteran right-hander began the season in the Braves rotation, but he lasted just three starts before being moved to the bullpen. The former All-Star wasn't much better in relief, posting a 7.07 ERA in 12 appearances. He had an 8.03 ERA in three starts.
Braves P Eric Stults surrenders three runs in loss
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(5/8/15) Braves pitcher Eric Stults gave up three earned runs in Friday night's 9-2 loss to division-rival Nationals.
Stults went six innings and gave up seven hits. But he did strike out seven batters. In his past two games, Stults has given up a total of nine earned runs and four home runs. Against Washington, Stults gave up two home runs — one each to Bryce Harper and Jayson Werth.
Stults, however, wasn't responsible for the lopsided loss. Williams Perez and Trevor Cahill gave up a combined five runs in the eighth inning. Harper hit his second homer of the game, a three-run shot, off of Perez. Danny Espinosa went yard on Hill.
Making his MLB debut Friday night, Perez now has a 108.00 ERA.
As for Stults, he falls to 1-3 with a 4.84 ERA.
His next start is projected for May 13 against the Reds.
Moving Braves' Trevor Cahill to bullpen 'not a permanent move'
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(4/30/15) After three sub-par starts, Braves pitcher Trevor Cahill has been moved to the bullpen. However, manager Fredi Gonzalez said the move is not permanent, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“I told him this was not a permanent move,” Gonzalez said. “A lot of things can happen, right? You think he’s going to be in the bullpen for a couple of weeks and then one of our guys sprains a toe and he’s back in the rotation. For right now, he can help us out of the bullpen.”
Cahill has started the season 0-3 with an 8.03 ERA. The Braves are expected to call up Mike Foltynewicz from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Friday.
Braves' Trevor Cahill gives up four runs in loss vs. Phillies
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(4/26/15) Braves pitcher Trevor Cahill took the loss Sunday, giving up four earned runs on five hits and three walks in six innings while striking out two in his team's 5-4 defeat against the Phillies.
Cahill (0-3) put himself in an early hole, serving up a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning to fall behind 3-2. The Braves were able to tie the game in the third inning, but the starter surrendered an RBI triple, putting his team behind for good.
"Any time you lose a ballgame, it's tough," said Cahill to MLB.com. "But it was nice to go out there and at least go six innings and not feel like you're a burden on the bullpen. The best part about it was I was able to get up six times. One pitch hurt me in the first inning, but I was able to kind of bounce back after that."
Cahill has posted an 8.03 ERA and 5:7 K:BB ratio in 12 1/3 innings over three starts. His next start is scheduled for Friday against the Reds at home.
