Rays OF Desmond Jennings avoids arbitration
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(1/16/15) The Rays have avoided arbitration with center fielder Desmond Jennings on Friday, reports CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. Both sides agreed to $3.1 million for 2015. He will also receive $25,000 for 550 plate appearances.
Jennings was limited to 123 games due to a knee injury in 2014. He hit .244/.319/.378 with 10 home runs, 30 doubles, 36 RBI and 15 stolen bases over 542 plate appearances.
Rays' Silverman: Desmond Jennings is 'a big part of our plans'

|(12/10/14) While Rays outfielders Matt Joyce, David DeJesus and Wil Myers have all been linked to trade rumors, it seems even if the Rays received calls about center fielder Desmond Jennings, there wouldn't be much interest to deal the 28-year-old outfielder.
"(Jennings is) an incredibly valuable player all around, and there's a reason why he's a mainstay in our lineup and a big part of our plans," Rays baseball operations president Matt Silverman said, per the Tampa Bay Times.
Jennings was limited to 123 games due to injury in 2014. He hit .244 with 10 home runs, 30 doubles, 36 RBI and 15 stolen bases.
Desmond Jennings' season over
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
|(9/22/14) Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings, who has been out since Aug. 28 with a sore left knee, will spend the final week of the regular season rehabbing the knee in Tampa Bay while the team travels to Boston and Cleveland, according to the Tampa Bay Times. In other words, his season is over.
Jennings said his knee has shown some improvement during his time away from the field.
Season likely over for Desmond Jennings
|by Al Melchior | Data Analyst|
|(9/7/14) Rays manager Joe Maddon told the Tampa Bay Times that outfielder Desmond Jennings will probably not play again this season. Jennings has been dealing with a knee injury and last played on Aug. 28.
In 123 games, Jennings has batted .244 with 10 home runs, 64 runs scored and 15 stolen bases.
|2014 summary: From a skills perspective, Desmond Jennings wasn't a much different player than he had been in either of his two previous seasons, yet he experienced a massive decrease in Fantasy value. Jennings was a top 40 outfielder in 2013, but last season, he barely cracked the top 60. A slight decline in power helped to deflate Jennings' value, but the weakness of the rest of the Rays' lineup played a role as well. Jennings scored 64 runs after having exceeded 80 in each of the preceding two years, and he drove in 36 runs after getting 47 and 54 RBI in 2012 and 2013, respectively. Though the declines were milder, Jennings also had his lowest batting average (.244) and stolen base total (15) since becoming a regular in 2011.|
Playing time status: Jennings missed the final 28 games of last season with a sore knee, but he should be ready for spring training. However, he has never played 140 games in a season, so a disabled list stint almost seems inevitable at some point in 2015.
2015 outlook: Jennings has yet to replicate the power display he showed in his 2011 half-season (10 home runs, nine doubles and four triples in 247 at-bats), so it is probably time to stop waiting for a repeat. The speed half of Jennings' power/speed combo already appears to be in decline, so there's little left to recommend him as an option for standard mixed league owners. He is now a deep league option for Head-to-Head owners, though Rotisserie owners could consider him as a late-rounder in standard mixed leagues.
