Fantasy Analysis
Alonso has been swinging the bat well for the Padres as he is now hitting .338 with one home run and nine RBI in May. However, Fantasy owners would like to see a bit more power from the 25-year-old as he has one home run over 140 at-bats on the year. While that is usually the last part of a player's game to develop, Fantasy owners should continue view Alonso as more of a low-end option until his pop shows up. (Updated 05/20/2012).

05/16/2012 18:18 Alonso is being added at a higher rate
San Diego first baseman Yonder Alonso is one of the most added players in CBSSports.com leagues. The Fantasy Baseball 360 crew has the details.
Yonder Alonso isn't any more an outfielder than Shaquille O'Neal is a rapper, but sometimes the powers that be are willing to fit a square peg into a round hole for the sake of the numbers it might generate. Unfortunately for the Reds, it was such a bad fit that they had no choice but to trade their most-developed prospect to the Padres in the offseason. With the departure of Anthony Rizzo to the Cubs, Alonso will have first base all to himself in San Diego. He's 24, has demonstrated a keen batting eye and elite OPS potential in the minors, and seemed to have no trouble adjusting to the majors late last season. The assurance of playing time is enough to make Alonso a late-round sleeper in Fantasy, though keep in mind he's going from a terrific hitter's park to arguably the worst in the majors. You shouldn't expect other-worldly power numbers from the rookie, but as long as he keeps his walks high, he'll be useful in Head-to-Head leagues. (Updated 1/26/12)
