|Todd Frazier delivers key home run in win Tuesday |
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(6/17/14) Reds third baseman Todd Frazier played the hero Tuesday, going 2 for 5 with a ninth-inning home run in his team's 6-5 win over the Pirates.
Frazier, who scored two runs and stole a base in the win, came to the plate with the score tied 5-5 in the ninth inning and delivered the biggest hit of the game, scoring the final run of his team's win. After homering in back-to-back games, Frazier has hit .276/.349/.524 with 16 home runs, 40 RBI and seven stolen bases in 254 at-bats.
|After an impressive rookie season in which he seized the starting third base job in Cincinnati with 19 homers in 422 at-bats, Todd Frazier took a step back last year. He again hit 19 homers, but with a .234 batting average that ranked ahead of only Mike Moustakas and Pedro Alvarez among full-time third basemen. Entering his age-28 season, Frazier doesn't have much potential for growth, so with middle-of-the-road plate discipline and minimal base-stealing ability, 2012 might be as good as it gets for him. His strong finish to 2013 (he hit .261 with six home runs in September) offers some hope he can get back to that level, but the possibility of him falling short again makes him just a fringy option in mixed leagues.
