Preseason Outlook

Latos showed some flashes of brilliance in the second half for the rebuilding Padres, finishing with a 4-5 record and 4.62 ERA in 11 starts. He is clearly capable of being an elite Fantasy starter long term, but the lightning-armed 22-year-old talent won't be capable of reaching his potential in his first full season in the majors. Expect inconsistency but occasional dominance and consider him a sleeper in deeper leagues on Draft Day. If he was pitching for a better contender, he would have a lot more value. He does at least have that pitcher's park in San Diego in which to develop. (Updated 1/12/10)
