Phillies likely to open with Ben Revere in LF, Odubel Herrera in CF

(3/29/15) Phillies manager Ryan Sandberg said Ben Revere will most likely remain in left field and Odubel Herrera will be in center on opening day, reports The News Journal.

Revere and Herrera were shifted to their respective outfield positions less than two weeks ago and it appears the move will carry over into the regular season.

For the spring, Revere his hitting .170 with in 53 at-bats while Herrera is hitting .346 in 52 at-bats.

Phillies' Ben Revere OK with work in left field

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/23/15) Phillies center fielder Ben Revere has started in left field for three consecutive games, with Rule 5 pick Odubel Herrera in center field, and the outfielder is OK with the move, which may or may not translate into time in left field during the regular season, MLB.com reports.

"It's been a little while since I've played there," Revere said. "I really adjust quickly. It won't be anything I'm nervous about. They said they just want to see another bat in the lineup, so I just do what the coaches say. Maybe we'll see it in the regular season, but it's just to get prepared for it."

Revere hasn't played left field in a regular-season game since 2012. Herrera entered play Monday batting .368 with one double, two walks and four stolen bases, and one scout called him the second-best hitter on the team behind Chase Utley.

Phillies' Ben Revere seeing time in left field during spring

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/21/15) Phillies outfielder Ben Revere was told Friday he will see more time in left field this spring. Revere, who primarily plays center, doesn't know how long the adjustment will be for, but is doing whatever he can to help the team, reports MLB.com.

"Never know. You never know," Revere said Saturday morning. "Definitely a lot of changes this spring and everything, so if it's permanent, got to be ready for it. I'm ready for it. Just something to help get some guys in the lineup, get some bats in the lineup," Revere said. "If it's something I have to do, I have to do [it.] If they move me back to center, I'll be ready for it. But if I play left, I'll be ready for that, too."

Manager Ryne Sandberg chalked it up to testing things out in spring training.

"Kind of all part of spring training, to try some different things and some different possibilities," Sandberg said. "Something I wanted to look at. All part of spring training."

Phillies' Ben Revere learning to bunt for base hits

by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com
(3/2/15) Phillies outfielder and leadoff hitter Ben Revere has been practicing bunting for base hits, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer

Manager Ryne Sandberg said the goal is for Revere to notch 10-to-15 base hits from bunts this upcoming season. A year ago, Revere posted a career-best .306 batting average. Both Revere and Sandberg are hoping if this skill develops that his numbers can increase even more.

"Just having that is going to put more pressure on the defense," Revere said. "Are we going to come up or are we going to stay back? Because I can slap a line drive right by them that could be for a base hit or a double. The infield won't know what to do."

Phillies' Ben Revere out to overcome pain-filled 2014 season

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(1/20/15) Phillies centerfielder Ben Revere revealed Tuesday he dealt with a lot of pain in his right ankle for much of the 2014 season. In 2013, Revere's season was cut short after he fractured his ankle, which required surgical screws to be placed in it. The screws stayed in his ankle during the 2014 season.

"The more the season went on it just got worse and worse and worse," Revere said.

He also received much scarier news from doctors after the season was over.

"The doctors told me after the surgery that the screws were going into my nerves and that is what was causing all the pain," Revere said. "They told me I was lucky I didn't get any nerve damage or anything. It's fully healed now. I can do everything. I can do power lifting. I couldn't even squat last year. I'm squatting 400 pounds now. Last year, my hamstring [shut] down, my quads were weak. Now, I'm getting all my strength back."

New Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said he thinks Revere needs to work on his extra-base hitting heading into the 2015 season.

"He hasn't found his full stride on what he can do on a baseball field," Sandberg said. "He's a strong kid, but he hits all singles. For me, that doesn't add up. I see him as a potential 30 to 40 doubles type of a hitter mainly because he makes so much contact and he is strong. He has the ability to pop the ball to the gaps and down the lines. He does use the whole field when he hits and he's a base stealer, so for me that shows the potential to translate into a doubles hitter."

Revere hit .306 in 2014 with 28 RBI and 71 runs scored in 601 at-bats.
