| Alfredo Aceves just a phone call away |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/8/13) Red Sox pitcher Alfredo Aceves has been solid at Triple-A Pawtucket, MLB.com reports Wednesday. With Boston needing pitching help, Aceves is just a phone call away.
Recently demoted, Aceves, who is starting for Pawtucket, is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in his first two outings.
"He's going to be evaluated independently based on his ability to execute with the consistency that we outlined when we optioned him to Pawtucket," manager John Farrell said. "While he's in the starting role there, we feel like that's the best place for him to gain that consistency, and yet he wouldn't be the only option if a need were to continue to arise to support the bullpen."
Boston wants to see a larger body of work before it brings Aceves back to the big leagues.

| Alfredo Aceves makes Triple-A debut |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/2/13) Red Sox pitcher Alfredo Aceves made his first minor-league appearance for the Pawtucket Red Sox Thursday.
Aceves, who pitched for the first time in nine days, had some issues with his control, but lasted longer than expected. He surrendered two hits in six scoreless innings of work. He struck out six, walked four and hit a batter on 101 pitches, 57 for strikes.
Aceves topped 94 mph in his first outing since being optioned to Triple-A.

| Alfredo Aceves reports to Triple-A |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (4/27/13) Red Sox pitcher Alfredo Aceves reported to Triple-A Pawtucket, the Providence Journal reports Saturday.
The Red Sox were unable to trade Aceves after he was optioned to Triple-A last week.

| Alfredo Aceves will work as starter at Triple-A |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (4/25/13) Red Sox manager John Farrell clarified Thursday pitcher Alfredo Aceves' demotion to Triple-A Pawtucket was "strictly performance-based." Farrell said Aceves took the news "like a pro."
Farrell added Aceves will work in the rotation at Pawtucket because he's behind more relievers than starters when it comes to organizational depth.
Aceves was 1-1 with a 8.10 ERA in three starts for Boston before being demoted Wednesday.

| Alfredo Aceves to report to Triple-A |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (4/25/13) Red Sox reliever Alfredo Aceves, who was optioned to the minors Wednesday, is expected to report to Triple-A Pawtucket within the 72-hour limit allowed, CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports. Heyman said Aceves has to report in order to receive his major-league salary ($2.65 million).
|
| Alfredo Aceves had a spectacularly confusing 2012, which included an early season implosion, a suspension for warring with Bobby Valentine and then there were the 25 saves. With Andrew Bailey back in the mix for 2013, Aceves is out as the closer, but could find his way back into the rotation. New manager John Farrell has praised Aceves' versatility in winter interviews, but was still vague as to what his role would be. For now, consider Aceves only in AL-only formats as a reliever who could make spot starts and possibly join the rotation if one of the starters falters or is injured. (Updated 12/3/12) |
