Fantasy Analysis
Aceves has been a much better closer for Boston after having some struggles in the role in early April. He has six May saves and hasn't allowed a run in his last seven appearances. Aceves has developed into a No. 2 Fantasy reliever in mixed leagues. (Updated 05/23/2012).

It's true that you can't spell Alfredo Aceves without the word, "ace," but no one would confuse the 30-year-old with a top-of-the-rotation starter. However, the Red Sox are going to give Aceves -- a long reliever and spot starter up to this point -- a chance to nail down a spot at the back of the rotation. While Aceves isn't overpowering, he has been very good at avoiding hard contact and getting hitters to pop up. It's not yet known if that will translate when in a full-time starting role, but if it does, Aceves will be particularly valuable to Head-to-Head owners, who can get starter innings from him while using him as a reliever in Fantasy. That makes Aceves worth drafting as a Fantasy relief pitcher in deeper mixed Head-to-Head formats. (Updated 2/21/12)
