|Kris Medlen scheduled for Tommy John surgery Tuesday |

(3/17/14) Braves pitcher Kris Medlen is scheduled to undergo Tommy John surgery Tuesday after Monday's meeting with Dr. James Andrews, MLB.com reports.
This will be Medlen's second Tommy John surgery. He pitched a career-high 197 innings in 2013 while posting a 15-12 record, 3.11 ERA and 157:47 K:BB ratio. He'll miss the entire 2014 season while recovering.
|Brandon Beachy and Kris Medlen to see Dr. James Andrews |
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
(3/14/14) Braves pitchers Brandon Beachy and Kris Medlen will see Dr. James Andrews Monday, according to MLB.com.
Medlen is expected to need a second Tommy John surgery after initial tests showed damage to his elbow. Beachy's visit to Dr. Andrews is more concerning. Beachy has been dealing with some arm tightness, and forearm issues, and the team is worried about his status. Beachy missed most of 2013 while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
|Although Kris Medlen wasn't as dominant of a pitcher as he was in 2012, the right-hander still had a pretty successful campaign in 2013, bouncing back from a 3.64 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in his first 19 starts to go 9-3 with a 2.38 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over his final 13 outings (12 starts). A lot of good that does him now, though. About halfway through spring training, Medlen pulled himself out of a game because of elbow pain, and an MRI revealed ligament damage, requiring Tommy John surgery. It's the second time Medlen has had the procedure, casting doubt over the rest of his career. Because of his smallish frame, he could get confined to a bullpen role, assuming he returns at all. Regardless, he's a lost cause for 2014.
