Pedro Ciriaco replaces Alberto Callaspo in Braves' lineup

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com

He's replaced by Pedro Ciriaco, who starts for the second time this season at the hot corner.

Braves infielder Pedro Ciriaco draws start at third base on Tuesday

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/19/15) Braves infielder Pedro Ciriaco is in the starting lineup for the second time this season, as he will be the starting third baseman on Tuesday against the Rays. Ciriaco started Sunday's game at shortstop, but will slide over to the hot corner with Phil Gosselin lost for at least two months with a thumb injury.

The light-hitting Ciriaco is batting second in the order on Tuesday. He does have three hits in seven at-bats this season, with all of them going for extra bases (two doubles and a triple).

Braves' Andrelton Simmons out, Pedro Ciriaco in Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(5/17/15) Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins.

Simmons has started all 36 games at shortstop this season but will receive his first break Sunday, with Pedro Ciriaco taking his place at the position and batting seventh. It's the first start of the season at any position for the backup infielder, who is 2 for 4 with two RBI in five games.

The Braves are underdogs (+117) in Miami Sunday, per VegasInsider.com.

Braves call up Pedro Ciriaco, send down Ian Thomas

by Shawn Krest | CBSSports.com
(5/2/15) The Braves called infielder Pedro Ciriaco up from Triple-A Gwinnett, the team announced on Saturday.

Ciriaco has played 188 MLB games with four different teams over the last five years. He was hitting .234 with a home run and seven RBI with Gwinnett.

To make room, the Braves optioned LHP Ian Thomas to Gwinnett. Thomas had a 2.70 ERA in four appearances for the Braves this year.

Braves' Pedro Ciriaco reassigned to Triple-A

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/7/15) Braves infielder Pedro Ciriaco was in line to win the final spot on the major-league bench this season, but after the team acquired Cameron Maybin on Sunday, manager Fredi Gonzalez had to tell Ciriaco that he wouldn't be on the Opening Day roster, the Atlanta Journal-Consitution reports.

"You guys see it at the top level with (Craig) Kimbrel, but you didn’t see it with Ciriaco. That was tough," Gonzalez said. “Here’s a guy on Saturday, you bring him into the office and he’s scared to death, because he doesn’t know what’s going to happen. And I say, congratulations, you made the team, barring anything crazy. And he starts crying. He had expected to be sent down. I tell him he had a hell of a spring and all the reasons we’re going to go with him, and he starts crying and he goes, 'It’s the first time I’ve made an Opening Day roster.' Well, (expletive), 12 hours later he’s not on the Opening Day roster, and you’ve got to have that conversation. I mean, it’s tough sometimes."

Ciriaco, who was reassigned to Triple-A Gwinett in the wake of the Kimbrel-Maybin trade, hit .373/.387/.492 in 59 spring at-bats.
