| Twins undecided on Friday starter |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/20/13) Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Monday that he is unsure who will start Friday against Detroit, MLB.com reports.
Gardenhire said it will either be Kyle Gibson, P.J. Walters or Samuel Deduno to make the start.
Gibson has been dominant in the minors lately but Walters and Deduno have more major league experience at this time.

| Sam Deduno returns from minor-league disabled list |
by Jack Moore | CBSSports.com (5/5/13) Twins pitcher Sam Deduno made his return from the minor-league disabled list and threw five innings with one run allowed for Triple-A Rochester on Sunday.
Deduno struck out four against four walks. The run was unearned. Expect Deduno to be near the top of the list of starting pitching callups for Minnesota.

| Samuel Deduno making progress |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (4/25/13) Twins starting pitcher Samuel Deduno pitched in extended spring training Thursday as he continues to recover from a groin injury. Deduno threw 50 pitches in the outing, and does not appear to have suffered any sort of setback.
The team does not have a timeline for Deduno's return, however he was optioned to minor-league camp in spring training and will likely not be called up to the majors, even when healthy.

| The Twins didn't turn to Samuel Deduno until they had already burned through three or four other options for their starting rotation, but when they finally gave him a shot in July, he delivered solid numbers until about mid-September, when he allowed 11 earned runs over his final seven innings. On the one hand, you could say he was getting by on smoke and mirrors, but on the other hand, he posted a 2.14 ERA (with more than a strikeout per inning) in nine starts at Triple-A Rochester before getting the call. Granted, no one would mistake him for an emerging ace, but maybe he's good enough to stick around in the majors. Of course, he won't be able to sustain an ERA below 4.50 if he continues to walk 6.0 batters per nine innings like he did last year, so Fantasy owners would probably be wise to avoid Deduno on Draft Day. He could end up having some AL-only appeal if he wins a rotation spot in spring training, though. (Updated 1/8/13) |
