| Ivan Nova not being rushed back |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/20/13) Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova was limited to around 60 pitches Monday as he went 3 2/3 innings in a simulated game, the Journal News reports.
Manager Joe Girardi said the Yankees intentionally kept him at a limited pitch count. They are not rushing him back.
"We'll talk about it," Girardi said. "Whatever it is we know he needs a couple days off."
Nova is on the 15-day disabled list with triceps inflammation. He suffered a setback when he was ready to return the last time and New York wants to play it safe.

| Ivan Nova scheduled to throw Monday |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/16/13) Yankees starter Ivan Nova, on the 15-day disabled list with triceps inflammation, will throw a side session Monday, according to manager Joe Girardi.
Nova recently suffered a setback and was scratched from Monday's doubleheader against the Indians after feeling soreness in his upper back. The Yankees are expected to send him for another rehab outing before he returns to the rotation.

| Ivan Nova news takes positive turn |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (5/13/13) Yankees starter Ivan Nova suffered a setback recently and wasn't available to pitch in Monday's doubleheader against the Indians. That said, the setback wasn't to his side, as originally reported, the Journal News wrote.
Nova felt some discomfort in his upper back, away from his spine and closer to his shoulder. The Yankees say the setback doesn't appear to be serious. Manager Joe Girardi said Nova, on the disabled list, could pitch in another minor league game shortly.

| Ivan Nova ruled out of doubleheader |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/12/13) Yankees manager Joe Girardi announced Sunday starting pitcher Ivan Nova, who has been on the disabled list with a triceps injury, will not be part of the pitching plans for Monday's doubleheader against the Indians. Girardi said Nova felt pain on his left side while playing catch Sunday.

| Yankees haven't finalized pitching plans for doubleheader |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/9/13) Yankees manager Joe Giradi said he hasn't made a decision about who will start the second game of Monday's doubleheader at Cleveland, according to The Star-Ledger. Ivan Nova, who is on the disabled list with a triceps injury, is considered the favorite to make the start, but Adam Warren and Vidal Nuno could also be considered for a spot start.

| Yankees starter Ivan Nova took a tremendous step back in 2012, finishing the season with a 5.02 ERA and 1.47 WHIP, just one year after finishing fourth in Rookie of the Year voting with a 3.70 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. The 2012 Nova was a disaster early, finishing May with a 5.60 ERA. He actually put together a nice run in the middle of the season, getting his ERA all he way down to 3.92 by the All-Star Break, but then flailed his way through the second half, eventually pushing it back up to 5.02 by season's end. That 1.26 ERA in the month of June looks promising, but Nova failed to ride any of the momentum deeper into the season. His 28 home runs allowed were more than double the amount he let fly in 2011 and that number may be related to his jump in strikeouts, as he saw his K/9 leap from 5.3 in 2011 to 8.1 in 2012. There's no telling which Nova will show up in 2013 -- the contact pitcher who is capable of a sub-4.00 ERA or the wannabe strikeout pitcher who had balls flying out of the park. Proceed with caution here, as the risk may not be worth the reward. He will likely be taken in the later rounds on Draft Day. (Updated 12/5/12) |
