|(9/3/14) Yankees pitcher Ivan Nova has been able to start a throwing program, according to the New York Daily News.
Nova had Tommy John surgery in April, and was slated to throw again in September. Nova was able to start a throwing program last week. He started slow, making 25 throws from 60 feet. He was able to throw three days last week. Nova will likely complete his rehab in Tampa during the offseason.
Ivan Nova will try to resume throwing in September
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(6/19/14) Yankees starting pitcher Ivan Nova told reporters that the plan is for him to resume throwing by the start of September, the Star-Ledger reports. Nova is nearly two months removed from Tommy John surgery.|
"I'm still two months away," said Nova. "I still have a ways to go."
|2014 summary: Ivan Nova made only four starts for the Yankees, as he was diagnosed with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament and underwent Tommy John surgery in late April. He did not fare well in his brief time in the rotation, going 2-2 with an 8.27 ERA.|
Playing time status: Nova is aiming to return to the Yankees' rotation in May.
2015 outlook: The last time Nova was likely healthy -- back in 2013 -- he was having a breakout season. He doesn't have the most pristine control, and even though he can hit the upper 90s, that hasn't been much of a deterrent against contact. What Nova did have at his best was a highly effective sinker, and if he has that again in 2015, he will be worth using in standard mixed leagues as a streaming option. However, there's no need to draft him outside of deeper mixed leagues and AL-only formats.
