| Danny Valencia hits third home run |

(6/5/13) Orioles third baseman Danny Valencia hit his third home run in just nine games in Tuesday's win over Houston.
Valencia has been all power so far. He has been on base just eight times in 29 plate appearances (.276 OBP) but five of those eight have been via doubles or home runs. He's slugging a robust .643.

(5/25/13) Orioles infielder Danny Valencia continued to hit well Saturday, homering for the second game in a row against the Blue Jays.
Valencia had a two-run shot off starter R.A. Dickey in the third inning of a 6-5 loss. He finished 1 for 3 with a walk, two RBI and a run scored.
Valencia is hitting .313 with at least a hit in his first four games. He has driven in four runs and scored three, with four extra-base hits.

(5/19/13) The Orioles recalled third baseman Danny Valencia from Triple-A Norfolk Sunday before a game against the Rays, MLB.com reports.
Valencia has hit .306 with 11 home runs over 171 plate appearances at Norfolk this season. He fills the team's need for a right-handed hitter with Nolan Reimold on the DL.

Valencia has hit .306/.339/.600 with 11 home runs in 171 plate appearances at Triple-A this season. He would fill the team's need for a right-handed hitter with Nolan Reimold on the disabled list.

(3/21/13) The Orioles optioned third baseman Danny Valencia to Triple-A Norfolk Thursday.
Valencia was in the middle of a solid spring, hitting .323/.417/.484 in 36 plate appearances, but the 28-year-old will open the season at Triple-A after hitting .188/.199/.299 in the majors last season.

Davis hits 20th HR as Orioles double up Tigers
Chris Davis hit his major league-leading 20th home run to ignite a three-run seventh inning, and the Baltimore Orioles got a strong pitching performance from rookie Kevin Gausman in a 4-2 comeback victory against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday.

| Danny Valencia's career has taken a bit of a hard left turn. After seeing over 860 at-bats in 2010 and 2011, hitting .269 with 22 home runs and 112 RBI -- and finishing third in Rookie of the Year voting in 2010 -- Valencia played in just 44 major league games last year, hitting .188 between the Twins and the Red Sox. In late November, Baltimore purchased Valencia from Boston, and it looks like he could get some chances for playing time, despite a disastrous stint in limited time last year -- .199 average and three home runs. If he gets 300 at-bats, which is a possibility, given Baltimore's unsettled situation at DH and Valencia's 14 games there in the minors last year, an owner could see some power and possible average from the 28-year-old. He's a pretty big gamble, but Valencia could be decent bench depth in deep AL-only leagues. (Updated 1/9/13) |
