| Josh Thole heading to Triple-A Buffalo |

(3/25/13) The Blue Jays have optioned catcher Josh Thole to Triple-A Buffalo Sunday. Thole was once believed to have been the favorite for the backup position in order to serve as R.A. Dickey's personal catcher this season. He produced a mediocre .171/.237/.286 slash line this spring.

(1/19/13) Toronto avoided arbitration with catcher Josh Thole on Friday, signing the backstop to a two-year contract with an option for a third year.

(12/17/12) Starting pitcher R.A. Dickey isn't the only one headed to Toronto in a deal that sent Travis d'Arnaud, Noah Syndergaard and Wulimer Becerra to the Mets Monday. He'll be joined by catcher Josh Thole, who caught Dickey for the majority of his Cy Young season. The Blue Jays also acquired Mike Nickeas in the deal. Thole hit .234 with one home run in 321 at-bats for the Mets last season.

| After showing progress at the plate over the previous two seasons, Josh Thole suffered a serious setback in 2012 as he batted a career-low .234. He also hit just one home run with 21 RBI in 321 at-bats and lost playing time to Kelly Shoppach after he was acquired from the Red Sox. The Mets traded him to the Blue Jays in the R.A. Dickey deal during the offseason and the 26-year-old is expected to backup J.P. Arencibia behind the plate. Thole will benefit from a more potent lineup in Toronto and could end up being the personal catcher for Dickey based on their history in New York. Since he probably won't see a ton of playing time over Arencibia, however, plan on leaving him for AL-only formats -- at best -- on Draft Day. (Updated 12/18/12) |
