Cardinals C Yadier Molina exits Tuesday's game with back stiffness

by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(5/13/15) Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was forced to exit Tuesday's game against the Indians in the ninth inning due to back stiffness, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

"Yadi tightened up a little bit," manager Mike Matheny told MLB.com. "I don't know if it was the cold or what it was exactly, so we'll have to keep an eye on him."

Molina was 2 for 4 and scored a run before being lifted for a pinch-hitter in the person of backup catcher Tony Cruz. Cruz would likely draw the start on Wednesday if Molina is unable to go.

Carpenter, Wong in Cards' lineup for Monday; Molina out

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(5/4/15) Although he exited Sunday's game with light headness, third basman Matt Carpenter is in the Cardinals' starting lineup on Monday, batting second.

Kolten Wong received a rest and was not in Sunday's lineup for the Cards but returns Monday, playing second base and batting seventh.

Struggling catcher Yadier Molina, who's been dealing with knee soreness, will not start Monday as Tony Cruz gets the nod at catcher and will hit eighth.

Cardinals C Yadier Molina (knee) out of lineup Sunday

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(4/26/15) Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Brewers.

Molina is dealing with knee soreness after taking a foul tip off his knee guard Friday.

"He's feeling better, but we just need to take at least another day," manager Mike Matheny said, per MLB.com. "He can hit. He can run. But squatting is the issue right now."

The team called up a catcher before Sunday's game to back up Tony Cruz, who is batting eighth Sunday while making his third start in the last four days.

The Cardinals are road favorites (-144) in Milwaukee Sunday, per VegasInsider.com.

Cards INF Pete Kozma to serve as emergency catcher on Saturday

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(4/25/15) With catcher Yadier Molina day to day due to a sore knee, INF Pete Kozma caught a side session and will serve as the Cardinals' emergency catcher Saturday in Milwaukee, reports MLB.com.

Molina took a foul tip off his right knee guard in Friday's win and is experiencing soreness.

Tony Cruz gets the start behind the plate for the Cards.

Cards C Molina (knee) out of Saturday's starting lineup

by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer
(4/25/15) After leaving Friday's game following a foul tip off his right knee guard, catcher Yadier Molina is out of the Cardinals starting lineup on Saturday, replaced by backup Tony Cruz.

Molina, who took himself out of Friday's game in Milwaukee as a precaution, said his knee is just sore and doesn't expect to go on the disabled list.

"It's little sore, a little tight," said Molina to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "It's about the same right now," he said. "Hopefully, with treatment, I can get back on track (Sunday). That's what I'm shooting for."

This will be the second time this season Molina is not in the Cards' starting lineup, sitting out Thursday as a scheduled rest day.

Cruz has one hit in five at-bats this season.
