Cardinals add five to active roster

(9/2/14) The Cardinals recalled pitchers Marco Gonzalez, Nick Greenwood and Tyler Lyons and catcher Tony Cruz from Triple-A Memphis Tuesday, to take advantage of roster expansion.

The team also activated pitcher Jason Motte from the disabled list, after his recovery from a back strain in early August. 

Tony Cruz sent to Double-A

(8/29/14) The Cardinals optioned catcher Tony Cruz to Double-A Springfield Friday, in order to clear a roster spot for the return of Yadier Molina.

Cruz is expected back with the team when rosters expand Sept. 1. He is struggling through his worst offensive season, hitting just .195/.267/.236 in 123 at-bats.

(7/10/14) The Cardinals recalled catcher Audry Perez from Triple-A Memphis Thursday, following Yadier Molina's placement on the disabled list with a thumb injury.

Perez will likely serve as the primary backup to Tony Cruz, according to the Belleville News-Democrat. Molina could be out for the rest of the regular season following a torn ligament in his thumb.

(6/7/14) Cardinals catcher Tony Cruz played a big role in the team's 5-0 victory over the Blue Jays.

Cruz had just one hit, but it was a big one. With the bases loaded in the eighth, Cruz hit a two-run single to center. He finished 1 for 2, with no runs scored and two RBI.

(4/19/14) Cardinals backup catcher Tony Cruz certainly took advantage of a rare start Saturday in Washington.

Cruz singled in two runs in the third to give his team the lead and added another single in the ninth to raise his batting average to .444 on the season, albeit in only nine at-bats.
