Bard notches fourth victory: Red Sox starting pitcher Daniel Bard allowed two runs on five hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings during Wednesday's 6-5 win against the Orioles. Bard (4-5) allowed runs in the first and second inning, which included a solo homer from Nick Johnson, before settling down. The game was tied at 2 before Boston went ahead with a three-run sixth inning. Bard, who struck out two, threw 49 of 90 pitches for strikes and lowered his ERA to 4.69. (Updated 05/23/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
Bard continues to have mixed results as he transitions to the rotation. In May, he has allowed four or more runs in three of five starts. The Red Sox are committed to developing him as a starter, but right now Bard has low-end Fantasy appeal in mixed leagues. He will be back on the hill Tuesday against the Tigers and line up for two starts in Week 9 (May 28-June 3), with his second coming at Toronto. Those are two good offensive teams, so take that into account before starting Bard in Fantasy. (Updated 05/23/2012).

05/19/2012 20:58 Transition to rotation has included bumps (and walks), but Bard deserves a chance
Daniel Bard said he "knew it was going to be a tough transition" from the bullpen to the starting rotation, and it's starting to show. Bard has lost three of his last four starts, and his walk totals are raising some alarms. But the Red Sox seem committed to Bard in the rotation, and they should be.

05/12/2012 15:52 How to fix Red Sox? Start with getting younger, unleashing Bobby
The Red Sox's problems go well beyond their record. But there are ways to fix them, says Jon Heyman: Get younger, even if you have to bench Kevin Youkilis, let Bobby be Bobby and don't be afraid to ruffle feathers.
After developing into one of baseball's premier setup men over the last three seasons, Daniel Bard appeared poised to take over as closer with Jonathan Papelbon departing Boston via free agency this offseason. But the Red Sox had other plans. The team acquired Andrew Bailey from Oakland to handle the ninth-inning duties, opting to groom Bard for a rotation spot this spring. Bard has the job for now, but his spring was less than convincing. Obviously, his stuff could make him a huge asset in Fantasy, especially with the Red Sox offense backing him, but because he's so valuable out of the bullpen, the Red Sox might be quick to put him back there if he struggles in his first few starts. He's worth drafting as a sleeper in mixed leagues, but you wouldn't want to invest more than a late-round pick in him. (Updated 4/1/12)
