Astros' Josh Fields completes bullpen session on Tuesday
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(2/24/15) Astros reliever Josh Fields, who missed a bullpen session on Monday with a hamstring issue, returned to the mound Tuesday for a rescheduled session, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Manager A.J. Hinch told reporters that Fields was a full-go and did not experience any discomfort on Tuesday.
"Well, Fields doesn't really downshift," Hinch said. "If he was feeling anything, he doesn't show it. So he looked great. He looked the same as he did a few days ago. And he said he felt great. He went through the whole program, including some of the conditioning. He has one gear, and he throws it.
"I think he's fine. We'll modify his conditioning a touch just to ensure it, but that bullpen didn't give any indication that there's a lingering issue."
Astros RP Josh Fields sidelined with minor hamstring injury
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(2/23/15) Astros reliever Josh Fields skipped his bullpen session Monday after feeling tightness in his left hamstring Sunday, manager A.J. Hinch told reporters. However, he isn't expected to be sidelined for long, per the Houston Chronicle.
“Fields is going to throw probably tomorrow or the next day,” Hinch said. “Just a small little hamstring tightness. We certainly went on the side of caution. There’s no concern, he did all the other drills, he did bunt plays, he did PFPs.”
Astros manager A.J. Hinch on naming a closer: 'It'll take a while'
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(2/21/15) Astros manager A.J. Hinch told reporters Saturday that he has somewhat of an idea who his closer will be this season, but declined to reveal any names, per the Houston Chronicle. Hinch noted that it "will take a while" before he names his closer.
"I think you got to let it play out," Hinch said. "I don't want to get too far in trying to make that happen in your own mind. But I do have an idea of how I think it's going to play out, but I'm not rushing to judgment, or, I'm not against changing my mind about half a dozen to 10 times between now and April. It's very, very premature.
"There's less need to sort of try out. Competing for it is sort of a hard way to describe it when you've got guys that have some credentials. So I'll stop calling it a competition, but it's more of an alignment of how we're going to use them."
Luke Gregerson signed a three-year, $18.5 million contract with the Astros, and is the highest-paid reliever on the roster. Chad Qualls was the ninth-inning man last season, and Pat Neshek, Tony Sipp and Josh Fields are all viable candidates for the gig.
Astros relievers have hurt obliques
|by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer|
|(9/21/14) According to the Houston Chronicle, Astros relievers Darin Downs and Josh Fields are both nursing oblique injuries. Because Downs aggravated a previous injury, he could possibly miss the rest of the season.
Downs last pitched in a game Friday. Fields, who was beginning to earn some save opportunities, hasn't pitched since Sept. 9.
Josh Fields secures fourth save Tuesday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(9/10/14) Astros pitcher Josh Fields earned his fourth save Tuesday, striking out one in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish off his team's 2-1 win over the Mariners.
Seattle was only able to get two baserunners in eight innings against starter Collin McHugh, and they didn't fare any better when Fields entered the game. He's allowed just one hit and no walks in 6 1/3 scoreless innings over his last six appearances. Fields owns a 4.45 ERA and 70:17 K:BB ratio in 54 2/3 innings.
