|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
(5/31/13) The Astros announced Friday that relief pitcher Josh Fields has been activated from the 15-day disabled list. He has appeared in just two games this season, facing one batter in each and getting both batters out, one via strikeout.
Fields was the first pick of this past offseason's Rule 5 draft after going 4-3 with a 2.01 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 78 strikeouts in 58 1/3 innings between two levels last season. He allowed two earned runs on nine hits over 10 innings during his rehab assignment, striking out eight and walking none.

(5/9/13) Astros reliever Josh Fields (forearm) will begin a rehab assignment with Class A Quad Cities Friday, according to MLB.com. Fields is slated to throw two innings.
|Josh Fields has yet to pitch one major league inning, yet he could enter the mix for saves in a wide-open Houston bullpen. The Rule 5 pick, plucked from the Red Sox system, sported a 2.01 ERA and 0.96 WHIP over 58 1/3 innings last season, between two levels of minor league ball. He strikes out well over a batter per inning and, at 27, has to make the Houston roster, or be given back to the Red Sox. as of now, Jose Veras looks like the lead horse for saves in Houston's bullpen, but if an AL-only owner is looking for a cheap, darkhorse saves candidate, Fields makes for a nice choice, one who can get strikeouts and keep low ratios in daily leagues even if he isn't in the saves mix from the start.
