Astros activate P Josh Fields, option IF Jonathan Villar
|by Jason Butt | CBSSports.com|
|(4/23/15) The Astros announced that they have activated reliever Josh Fields from the disabled list.
Fields has been on the 15-day disabled list with a groin injury. He's been with Triple-A Fresno and threw five times on a rehab assignment. Fields allowed two runs on five hits and four walks in six innings pitched. He's struck out three batters.
"Josh Fields is a real weapon in the 'pen anytime during the game," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said, per MLB.com. "I told him, he'll be used primarily as a bridge in the middle part of the game. Get a couple outings under his belt, we can move him into a number of roles."
To make room for Fields, the Astros optioned infielder Jonathan Villar to Fresno. In seven games played, Villar has only recorded one hit in 13 at-bats.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch please with Josh Fields' (groin) progress
|by Ted Leshinski | Staff Writer|
|(4/18/15) Astros manager A.J. Hinch was encouraged with pitcher Josh Fields' (groin) Triple-A outing on Friday, despite giving up a run on three hits in a relief appearance, reports the Houston Chronicle.
"The reports are that was some of the best stuff that Fields has featured while on rehab," Hinch said. "So that’s a good sign. Gave up a run, threw just north of 20 pitches. His stuff was together. His changeup was really good. He’s inching closer to coming back."
Fields, who is on the disabled list with a groin strain, is to make another relief outing on Sunday.
Astros not ready to activate Josh Fields with Will Harris excelling
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(4/15/15) The Astros are not ready to activate Josh Fields from the disabled list and have no obvious candidates for demotion, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Right-hander Will Harris would be the logical option to lose his roster spot in the event of a Fields activation, but the right-hander has surrendered just one hit in five scoreless innings while striking out five and walking none in three appearances.
"Will Harris has been one of our best relievers," manager A.J. Hinch said. "He’s done very well in his opportunity and we like what he’s done."
The Astros are also looking to give Fields a few more opportunites to get comfortable in rehab games.
"Little bit of both," Hinch said. "You want to make sure he’s fully comfortable and his pitches both have quality and comfort for him. I think it could happen quickly. It also could be a couple more outings."
