(3/13/13) CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman reports the Blue Jays have released first baseman David Cooper, according to sources. The Blue Jays have an interest in re-signing Cooper, who is expected to miss most of the 2013 season because of a back injury.

(2/17/13) Toronto first baseman David Cooper has not reported to spring training due to a lingering back issue, reports Sportsnet.ca Sunday. Cooper finished last year on the disabled list due to a back problem and it has apparently not healed after a winter of rest. Cooper is consulting with a specialist.

| David Cooper saw his most extensive playing time in the majors last season and showed he can handle the bat in the big leagues. He received the call in late May and batted .292 with a .431 slugging percentage in 24 games before being sent back to Triple-A. Cooper would be recalled in late July and ended up batting .300 with four home runs and 11 RBI, slugging a healthy .464. The 26-year-old is not expected to see a ton of playing time in 2013 with all of the moves the Blue Jays made during the offseason and can be ignored in the majority of Fantasy formats on Draft Day.
