Brewers option Matt Clark, Jason Rogers, Rob Wooten to Triple-A

by Brandon Wise | CBSSports.com
(3/31/15) The Brewers have optioned first baseman Matt Clark, utility man Jason Rogers and pitcher Rob Wooten to Triple-A Colorado Springs, the team announced Tuesday.

Clark hit .349 with three home runs and five RBI in 43 plate appearances this spring while Rogers hit .361 with one double and five RBI in 36 plate appearances.

Wooten posted a 1.26 ERA in 14 1/3 innings with two runs allowed and eight strikeouts.

Brewers' Matt Clark, Jason Rogers vie for final spot

by Elliott Smith | Staff Writer
(3/22/15) With the majority of the roster set, one of the Brewers' most interesting personnel decisions will come down to the 25th man, which is a battle between Matt Clark and Jason Rogers, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel

Clark, an outfielder/first baseman, and Rogers, who plays both corner positions, have impressed during spring and the final decision may come down to whether the Brewers want a lefty (Clark) or righty (Rogers) bat off the bench.

"We're trying to figure out what's the better fit for us," manager Ron Roenicke said. "There's a lot of ways we could go this year."

Brewers 1B Matt Clark making strong push for roster spot

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(3/20/15) Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Friday first baseman Matt Clark is making a strong bid to be on the opening day roster, per the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Roenicke added he is not concerned Clark is also a left-handed hitter like starting first baseman Adam Lind.

"If that bat is something you really think is important, you can (have two left-handed hitting first baseman on the roster)," Roenicke said. "In an emergency, he can go out (to the outfield).

"If you had Prince (Fielder) out there playing first base, then you don't need him. But we don't know with Lind how many games he's going to be out there. You want a guy to replace him that you feel good about. But the main thing is you need good pinch-hitters on the bench, and more left-handers than you do right-handers.

"He's got more experience than a lot of other guys. He went over to Japan (in 2013) and he's a smart hitter. He knows what he's doing. I think he'd be able to do it. He'll hit the ball all over the park. That's part of being a smart hitter."

Brewers' Matt Clark relaxed in spring competition

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(3/9/15) Brewers first baseman Matt Clark said Monday that he's concentrating on letting his talents take over as he looks to win a spot on the regular-season roster this spring, the Journal Sentinel reports.

"This is the first time I’ve ever come in on the roster," Clark said. "It’s easier to let your mind rest a little bit knowing that you’ve played in front of the big-league staff, they’ve seen you do well and it helps you kind of relax a little bit more than you would normally when you go in and they don’t know who you are. Then you’re like, 'I’ve got to make an impression right away.'"

Clark made his major-league debut in September and went 5 for 27 with three home runs over the season's final month.

"The experience is huge, being able to come in for September when the games really matter and actually help the team, contribute to wins," Clark said. "That shows you have confidence in yourself – 'When it comes down to crunch time, I can get it done.' Being able to do stuff to help the team win and move forward in September was a big stepping stone for me."

Matt Clark making an impact

by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer
(9/14/14) After yielding the spot to catcher Jonathan Lucroy the previous two days, Brewers first baseman Matt Clark was back in the lineup Sunday against the Reds. The rookie went 1 for 5 with a three-run homer, his third in his last three games.

Clark, 27, spent last season in Japan before returning to hit .304 with 26 homers and a .924 OPS in 414 at-bats between Double- and Triple-A this year. Manager Ron Roenicke told MLB.com he'll continue to find at-bats for him as long as he continues to produce.

"That's why we brought him up here, was with the idea that if the matchups were good and he did well, I'd be able to put him back out there," Roenicke said prior to Sunday's game. "With him continuing to swing the bat well, he's going to play a little bit more."
