| Marlins still evaluating Donovan Solano |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (6/9/13) Marlins second baseman Donovan Solano (side) is batting .600 (6 for 10) with one double and one RBI through three rehab games for Class A Jupiter, but manager Mike Redmond said Sunday the team hasn't decided yet when to activate Solano off the disabled list.
"Solano's available, but we still have to evaluate where he's at," Redmond said, per The Miami Herald. "We got a lot of guys that are close and we've talked about having some decisions to make. We have to sit down and figure out where these guys are at. We knew we would be getting guys back. Of course it all works out you get them all back the same week. It's a good situation. We're getting the lineup we thought we'd have when we left in spring training back. That's good."

| Donovan Solano healing at extended spring |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/29/13) Marlins second baseman Donovan Solano has been rehabbing at extended spring training in Jupiter, according to MLB.com, and is nearing a minor-league rehab assignment. Solano is on the disabled list while recovering from an intercostals strain.

| After toiling for seven years in the Cardinals' farm system, Donovan Solano got his first taste of the majors in 2012. He came to spring training with the Marlins and nearly made the opening day roster. He had to wait until May for his callup, and by August, he was the everyday second baseman. Solano's opportunity to be a starter came as a result of the Marlins trading away Omar Infante and, subsequently, Emilio Bonifacio missing almost the entire last two months with thumb and knee injuries. The pared-down Marlins will probably rely on Solano to man the keystone position again in 2013. Based on his minor league numbers, it appears that Solano overachieved with a .295 batting average last season, and he doesn't offer much in terms of power or steals. Solano will get at-bats, though, and the potential for at least a decent batting average makes him a reasonable low-end play in NL-only leagues. (Updated 1/2/13) |
