Marlins 2B Dee Gordon: 'I just want to score runs' in 2015

by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com
(2/26/15) Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon told reporters Thursday that he won't put a number on how many bases he'll swipe this season, and is more focused on improving his on-base percentage and scoring runs in his first season with his new club, per MLB.com.

"No goal," Gordon said. "I just want to score runs. That's it. I scored a lot of runs last year, and I don't think nobody realizes that. Whatever [stolen bases] I get is what I get. Whatever is going to make me score is what I want to do."

Gordon led MLB last season with 64 stolen bags. His 92 runs were tied with then-teammate Yasiel Puig for eighth most in the National League. He hit .289/.326/.378 over 609 at-bats last season.

All-Star Dee Gordon looking forward to working with Marlins' Hill

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(2/17/15) Marlins second baseman Dee Gordon is eagerly awaiting the start of spring training and is particularly looking forward to working with infield coach Perry Hill, per MLB.com.

"I was waiting on [Hill], like, a month ago," Gordon said. "I'm excited. I work hard. That's one thing I pride myself on, working as hard as possible. I'm just ready to take my game to the next level."

Gordon made the move from shortstop to second base in 2014. During his first All-Star campaign, Gordon posted a .981 fielding percentage in 144 games at second base for the Dodgers.

"There's a lot more second base in me," Gordon said. "There is a lot I still don't know. Honestly, I didn't really know how to learn on the fly with the Dodgers. Bone (nickname for Hill) is going to be a great teacher. I've heard nothing but great things about him, so I can't wait."

Marlins avoid arbitration with Alvarez, Gordon, Cishek

by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com
(1/16/15) The Marlins and starting pitcher Henderson Alvarez avoided arbitration Friday by agreeing to a $4 million salary for 2015, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

They also avoided arbitration with shortstop Dee Gordon and closer Steve Cishek. Gordon is set to make $2.5 million and Cishek will make $6.65 million in 2015.

Dodgers deal Dee Gordon to Marlins

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/10/14) The Dodgers have traded infielder Dee Gordon to the Marlins, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman.

The 26-year-old hit .289/.326/.378 over 609 at-bats last season. He stole 64 bases. The Dodgers will also send Dan Haren over in the deal. The 34-year-old pitcher is owed $10 million, but has said he would consider retiring if dealt away from Los Angeles.

Los Angeles will also send shortstop Miguel Rojas to Miami. Rojas hit .181 over 149 at-bats in the majors last year.

Pitcher Andrew Heaney will head to Los Angeles in the deal, according to the Miami Herald. The Marlins will also send over Enrique Hernandez, Austin Barnes and Chris Hatcher.

The 23-year-old Hernandez hit .319/.372/.484 over two minor-league levels last year. Hatcher, 29, posted a 3.38 ERA over 56 innings. Barnes, 24, hit .304/.398/.472 over two levels last year.

Gordon is entering his first season of arbitration, and will not be a free-agent until after the 2019 season.

Report: Marlins/Dodgers discussing Gordon for Heaney swap

by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com
(12/10/14) The Marlins and Dodgers are in "serious talks" about a deal involving Dee Gordon and Andrew Heaney, according to ESPN.

The 26-year-old Gordon hit .289/.326/.378 over 609 at-bats last season. Gordon is entering his first season of arbitration, and wouldn't become a free-agent until after the 2019 season. The 23-year-old Heaney got his first taste of the majors last year. He posted a 5.83 ERA over seven appearances. Heaney made five starts. It's possible other players are involved in the trade discussions.
