Fantasy Analysis
Nieuwenhuis' slump has dropped his average from .310 to .277. He is starting to look human after a great start. Jason Bay is on the rehab path and will eventually return to the Mets lineup. At that time the team could decide to option Nieuwenhuis to the minors. That was the original plan before Nieuwenhuis blew up, but that obviously changed after his hot start. A prolonged slump could help the Mets carry through with their original plan, but only time will tell. For now, Nieuwenhuis is still a low-end Fantasy option heading into Week 8 (May 21-27).
