Angels' Collin Cowgill not taking spot for granted
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
|(3/3/15) Angels outfielder Collin Cowgill is not taking his spot for granted, according to MLB.com.
"I understand how the game works," Cowgill said. "I understand a lot, maybe more so than a lot of people, because I've found myself in a lot of situations. I don't take anything for granted. So I'm going to keep trying to work and earn it."
Cowgill has spent time with four different teams in his young career, and understands how often you can lose your role. With Josh Hamilton expected to miss time early in the season, it appears Cowgill's spot on the roster is safe, even though he remains skeptical.
"If [Angels manager Mike] Scioscia's going to play me, it's because I deserve it," Cowgill said. "He's going to play me because he thinks I give him a chance to win, and that's the only way I want it to be."
The 28-year-old hit .250/.330/.354 over 260 at-bats last season.
Hamilton injury could free up at-bats for Angels' Joyce, Cowgill, Cron
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(2/4/15) With Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton doubtful for the start of the season due to shoulder surgery, his absence could open the door for more playing time in the outfield for Matt Joyce and Collin Cowgill. It could also mean more at-bats for C.J. Cron at DH, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“We don't envision this being a long-term issue, but 6-8 weeks is not a short-term thing,” general manager Jerry Dipoto said of Hamilton's injury. “We'll have a better idea when he gets back on the field doing baseball things.”
Report: Angels, Collin Cowgill avoid arbitration
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(1/16/15) The Angels have avoided arbitration with outfielder Collin Cowgill, who will make $995,000 in 2015, MLB.com reports.
Cowgill was eligible for arbitration for the first time this season, but he's not scheduled to reach free agency until after the 2018 season due to his Super 2 status. He hit .250/.330/.354 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 260 at-bats in 2014.
Report: Angels' Richards, Freese expected to be tendered offers
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(12/1/14) The Angels are expected to tender a contract offer to third baseman David Freese by Tuesday's deadline, according to the Los Angeles Times. Freese is expected to make $6.3 million in arbitration.
However, the team is not expected to tender an offer to infielder Gordon Beckham. The team would like to have Beckham back on the roster next season, but not for the $5 million he is projected to make in his third year of arbitration.
The Angels are also expected to tender offers to Garrett Richards, Kevin Jepsen, Hector Santiago, Fernando Salas and Collin Cowgill.
