Josh Harrison will be Pittsburgh's 'regular' 3B in 2015

|(11/11/14) Pirates general manager Neal Huntington said Tuesday infielder Josh Harrison will be the team's "regular" third baseman in 2015, per MLB.com. Although, Huntington did leave the door open for Pedro Alvarez to receive some starts at third base as well.
"His (best) fit is at first, but we'll keep Pedro's versatility in mind," Huntington said.
Josh Harrison the only bright spot Wednesday
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
|(10/1/14) Pirates infielder Josh Harrison was the lone bright spot Wednesday night.
Harrison was the only player on the club to collect two hits during the outing. In his final two at-bats, Harrison hit two singles. The Pirates managed just four hits off Madison Bumgarner during the contest. Half of those came from Harrison's bat. Harrison enjoyed a breakout during the regular season, hitting .315/.347/.490 over 520 at-bats.
Josh Harrison extends hit streak to 14 games Friday
|by R.J. White | CBSSports.com|
|(9/27/14) Pirates third baseman Josh Harrison went 1 for 4 in his team's 3-1 win over the Reds Friday to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.
Though he hasn't managed to homer in September, Harrison has continued to be a tough out, hitting .344/.357/.417 in 96 at-bats. While he didn't enter the season as a starter, the versatile player has certainly worked his way into Pittsburgh's long-term plans moving forward. Harrison has hit .318/.349/.494 with 13 home runs, 52 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 512 at-bats.
Josh Harrison able to return, bats leadoff Tuesday
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(9/9/14) Pirates infielder Josh Harrison is back in the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Phillies, after missing three games with an ankle injury. He is starting at third base and batting leadoff for his return, his first game back since Saturday.
|2014 summary: Josh Harrison might win the award for most surprising player of 2014, beginning the year as that guy who gets called up to occupy the last spot on the bench every time a starter goes down and ending it as a legitimate MVP candidate. He just wouldn't stop |
hitting, actually improving his .297 batting average from the first half with a .332 mark in the second half. Even though he didn't become an everyday player until May 18, he finished ninth among third basemen in Head-to-Head points leagues and sixth in Rotisserie.
Playing time status: Of course, to list where Harrison ranked at every position he played would be far too cumbersome. By season's end, he was quadruple eligible. He's down to third base and outfield now and is expected to play primarily third base in 2015 for the Pirates. Even if he regresses some, his versatility should ensure he gets his at-bats.
2015 outlook: So will he regress? A pure evaluation of BABIP says he will, but of course, not all BABIPs are so pure. Harrison hits an especially high number of line drives and has a penchant for spraying the ball to all fields. As a so-so power hitter who continually puts the ball in play, he's probably predisposed to a high BABIP anyway. You shouldn't expect him to win a batting title, but a .290ish batting average is likely -- and with just enough power and speed to make him a worthy starter at third base.
