| Orioles make two more cuts |
by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com (3/25/13) The Baltimore Orioles made two roster cuts on Monday before a Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox. Baltimore optioned infielder Russ Canzler to Triple-A Norfolk and sent outfielder Jason Pridie to minor league camp, reports MASNSports.com.
Canzler was 9 for 34 this spring for a .265 average with two RBI over 23 games. Pridie was 13 for 42 (.310) with four doubles, two home runs and eight RBI in 19 games.

| Canzler makes an impression |
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer (3/6/13) Orioles outfielder Russ Canzler, who has been waived by the Blue Jays, Indians and Yankees this offseason, homered twice in an exhibition game against Spain's World Baseball Classic team Wednesday, finishing 2 for 2 with six RBI. The wind was blowing out all day, though, manager Buck Showalter was quick to point out. "That was a hitter friendly day," Showalter said.

| Yankees the latest to ditch Canzler |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (2/1/13) Nomadic outfielder Russ Canzler became another roster casualty Friday when he was designated for assignment by the Yankees in order to clear a spot for newly signed designated hitter Travis Hafner. Canzler was claimed by New York last month after being released by two teams, including twice by Cleveland.

| Yanks claim Canzler |
by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer (1/4/13) Pity poor Russ Canzler. So far this offseason, he's been cut loose by the Indians, Blue Jays, and then the Indians again. As of Friday, he is now going to test his luck with the Yankees, who claimed him off waivers after the Indians dropped him to make room for the newly-acquired Brett Myers. The Yankees, looking for a right-handed power bat who can play the outfield, may have just turned Canzler into a nice sleeper candidate for 2013.

Orioles claim Russ Canzler off waivers from Yankees
First baseman/outfielder Russ Canzler has been claimed off waivers for the fourth time this offseason, this time by the Baltimore Orioles.
|
| Russ Canzler was briefly a Blue Jay this offseason, claimed off waivers by Toronto in late December before being re-claimed off waivers by the Indians about two weeks later. And then the Yankees claimed him when Cleveland DFA'd him again after signing Brett Myers. And then the Yankees themselves DFA'd him after signing Travis Hafner. After hearing all that, would you believe Canzler is actually a decent player? He has two 20-home run seasons in his last three minor league campaigns, and has a .278 average in almost 3,000 minor league at-bats. His two stints in the majors (29 games) have been pretty good, too: Canzler has a .271 average and three home runs. Watch him closely this spring, wherever he winds up. He's a huge long shot but is at least a name to remember. If he's sticking around major-league camp late into spring training, Canzler could be a nice reserve sleeper for the deepest of Fantasy leagues. (Updated 2/3/13) |
