| Craig Stammen earns win in long-relief |
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com (5/31/13) Nationals pitcher Craig Stammen made a long-relief appearance for an injured Stephen Strasburg and earned the win Friday night against the Braves.
Stammen (3-1) took over for Strasburg in the third inning and pitched four perfect innings while striking out three in a 3-2 victory. He has a 2.60 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP through 27 2/3 innings.

| Craig Stammen could get a start |
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com (5/16/13) With Ross Detwiler looking like a risk for his next scheduled start Monday against the Giants, Nationals manager Davey Johnson is reportedly leaning towards starting Craig Stammen in his place.
The Washington Post reported Thursday that Stammen is most likely to get the starting nod if Detwiler has to sit. Zach Duke would also be considered for the start.
Stamman has not started a game at the major-league level since 2010, but he does have a 2.33 ERA in 70 relief appearance over the last two seasons.

| Reliever Craig Stammen could start |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (5/16/13) Nationals reliever Craig Stammen could make a start if Ross Detwiler misses time after leaving Wednesday's game after three innings with back spasms.
Stammen replaced Detwiler and was able to go three innings, his longest appearance of the season. If Detwiler misses his next start, Stammen would be a candidate to fill the role.
Stammen came up through the Nationals' system as a starter but was converted to a reliever upon reaching the majors. Stammen has been able to get a high number of strikeouts out of the bullpen, but his arm might not be stretched out enough for him to pitch deep into a game. Detwiler's next start is scheduled for May 20 against the Giants.

| Craig Stammen works around trouble |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (4/6/13) Nationals pitcher Craig Stammen (1-0) recorded his first win of the season after completing the last two innings of Washington's 7-6 victory over Cincinnati on Saturday. Stammen allowed two hits and a run in the 11th inning during his second appearance of the season.
The right-hander also totaled four strikeouts -- his first of the year -- and walked a batter during his 35-pitch performance.

| Stammen re-ups with Nats |
by Nando Di Fino | Senior Fantasy Writer (1/18/13) CBSSports.com Senior Columnist Danny Knobler reported on Friday that the Washington Nationals have reached an agreement with relief pitcher Craig Stammen on a two-year deal, avoiding arbitration.
|
| Over the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Craig Stammen made 38 starts for the Nationals, but he didn't have much success, and things didn't go much better in 2011, when he made 24 starts for Triple-A Syracuse. Last season, the Nationals handed Stammen a spot in their bullpen out of spring training, and the new role revived his career. Pitching in long relief, Stammen threw harder, missed far more bats, and finished the season with a 2.34 ERA. Though Stammen recorded nearly a strikeout per inning, what distinguished him in Fantasy -- particularly in Head-to-Head leagues -- were the 88 1/3 innings he logged. Having made 28 appearances of two innings or more, Stammen rewarded owners in leagues that give points for innings, and he did so without making them pay in other categories. He could be a sneaky relief pick yet again in deeper points leagues. (Updated 1/8/13) |
