| Royals think Tim Collins will be fine |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (3/23/13) Royals reliever Tim Collins suffered his worst appearance of the Cactus League on Saturday against the Diamondbacks. He allowed five runs on six hits over an inning of work. The left-hander also struck out two while seeing his spring ERA rise to 13.50.
"He was really throwing the ball well before he went to the WBC, then he went and kind of sat for a while, got off-kilter a little bit," manager Ned Yost told MLB.com. "Not too much concern. There are just mechanical things we need to continue to address with him, and Dave [Eiland, the Royals pitching coach] thinks he'll be fine."

| Collins becoming strikeout artist |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (5/17/12) Royals reliever Tim Collins has been on a nice strikeout run lately. He struck out five batters in two innings Tuesday against the Rangers and has 16 strikeouts in eight May innings. "I'd be lying to you if I told you I wasn't trying to strike guys out," Collins told MLB.com. "As a bullpen guy, I'm just trying to go out there and get three outs, or six if I'm going out there for another inning. If I'm getting ahead and I've got a chance to strike a guy out, I'm going to try to strike a guy out. I'm not a big pitch-to-contact guy. Obviously, there's certain situations where you have to, but I'm trying to get some strikeouts."
|
| After an uneven rookie season in which he struggled with his control, Tim Collins became a legitimate force out of the bullpen last year, recording 93 strikeouts in 69 2/3 innings. His walk rate still kept his WHIP relatively high at 1.28, but the strikeout rate was more than enough to make up for it. Unfortunately, in a loaded bullpen, Collins is only fourth or fifth in line for saves, which severely limits his mixed-league appeal. But among pure middle relievers, he's one of the best.
