A's acquire Ben Zobrist, Yunel Escobar from Rays
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(1/10/15) The Athletics have acquired infielders Ben Zobrist and Yunel Escobar from the Rays in exchange for catcher John Jaso and two prospects and cash, both clubs announced Saturday. The two prospects include shortstop Daniel Robertson and outfielder Boog Powell.
Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle first reported the trade, and CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman confirmed the deal.
Zobrist, a two-time All Star, is coming off a season in which he hit .272/.354/.395 over 570 at-bats. He is entering the final year of his contract, and is due $7.5 million next season. Escobar, 32, hit 258/.324/.340 with seven homers and 39 RBI over 476 at-bats in 2014. He is expected to earn $5 million this season and $7 million in 2016, with a club option for 2017 at $7 million with a $1 million buyout.
The move will likely turn recently acquired Marcus Semien into an "everyday super utility player," Slusser said.

|(11/20/14) The Angels have acquired outfielder Daniel Robertson from the Rangers for a player to be named later or cash.
The 29-year-old got a taste of the majors last season. He hit .271/.333/.333 over 177 at-bats with Texas.
Dan Robertson to wear facemask another couple weeks
|by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com|
|(6/17/14) Rangers outfielder Dan Robertson will wear a clear plastic mask on defense and a special batting helmet when he hits for another couple weeks, reports MLB.com. He sustained three small fractures in his left cheek bone when he collided with outfielder Alex Rios on May 22 in Detroit.
"I'm a couple of weeks away from not having to wear any protection," Robertson said. "I've worn it so much, I really don't notice it. It just protects me if I do something wild and crazy, like running into a wall or trying to make a diving catch."
Robertson batted leadoff Monday and went 2 for 6 with a run scored. He could hit leadoff again Tuesday, according to the website. "He takes pitches, doesn't swing much out of the strike zone and makes solid contact," manager Ron Washington said.
After fitting for mask, Dan Robertson available off bench
|by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com|
|(5/28/14) Rangers outfielder Dan Robertson was not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins, but he should be available to play moving forward. He was fitted for a protective mask and should be able to play through a facial fracture with it.
"I'm sweating a little bit," Robertson told MLB.com . "Maybe I'll grow some facial hair and help absorb the sweat. It's fine. It's weird wearing it and frustrating wearing it but there are no limitations. If sweat is most of my problems, that's fine. For the next four to six weeks, I have to make it work."
Robertson will have to gain a comfort level with the mask, as well as a specially fitted batting helmet, before he is back in the starting lineup. He is available off the bench.
Dan Robertson waiting to be fitted for protective mask

|(5/25/14) Rangers outfielder Dan Robertson is unavailable until he gets fitted for a protective mask after he suffered non-displaced fractures in his face Thursday due to a collision in the outfield with teammate Alex Rios.
Robertson isn't expected to be fitted for a mask until Tuesday and isn't expected to rejoin the lineup until Wednesday, per MLB.com.
"I could play today but it would be risking further injury," Robertson said.
