| Cardinals relievers making progress in minors |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (5/7/13) Cardinals relievers Mitchell Boggs and Marc Rzepczynski have made some progress since being demoted to the minors, MLB.com reports.
Boggs made his first appearance for Triple-A Memphis Sunday and worked a scoreless inning. The right-hander posted a 12.66 ERA in 14 appearances in the majors.
Rzepczynski has allowed two runs over 4 1/3 innings pitched for Memphis after posting a 7.88 ERA in nine appearances for St. Louis.
"It sounds like they're getting some things going in a good direction," manager Mike Matheny said Tuesday.

| Marc Rzepczynski's demotion multi-faceted |
by Ed Gauna | CBSSports.com (4/29/13) Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak told MLB.com on Monday that Marc Rzepczynski's demotion was not strictly based on his performance.
While the left-hander posted a 7.88 ERA through nine appearances, Mozeliak said there was a perceived a lack of desire from him this year.
"When you drill down more specifically, it's seeing some of that competitiveness and fire, and I just wasn't really seeing that drive this year," Mozeliak said. "I noticed it early in spring, and it sort of just carried over.
"You're coming in with opportunities to do things, and it just wasn't getting done. When you think about inherited runners scoring, he was just becoming ineffective. We can't just keep rolling it over and over again, thinking we were going to get a different outcome. I think they define that as insanity if we keep trying it that way."

| Cardinals option Marc Rzepczynski |
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com (4/29/13) The Cardinals have optioned reliever Marc Rzepczynski to the minors.
Rzepczysnki has been optioned to make room for Seth Maness, who was called up to help in the bullpen. Rzepczynski has struggled in eight innings this season, though he's also been pretty unlucky, with a .429 BABIP.
Rzepczynski has a 7.88 ERA, but a 4.12 FIP, which is a better indicator of how he's pitched. He'll still probably play a big role in the club's bullpen this season.

| Marc Rzepczynski back on mound |
by Bill Passonno | CBSSports.com (3/16/13) Cardinals relief pitcher Marc Rzepczynski threw a scoreless inning of relief during a 3-0 loss to Detroit in a Grapefruit League game Saturday. Rzepczynski returned to action after a bizarre injury March 8 in which he was struck below the eye by a golf ball, affecting his vision. He was the third pitcher used by the Cardinals and had a strikeout and no walks to lower his spring ERA to 1.80.

| Marc Rzepczynski's status improving |
by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com (3/14/13) MLB.com reports Cardinals reliever Marc Rzepczynski, who suffered an eye injury while golfing last Friday, threw another bullpen session Thursday. He said the eye doctor told him 95 percent of the eye inflammation is gone.
"It was a complete 180," Rzepczynski said. "I couldn't read Waino's (Adam Wainwright) jersey [which hangs a few lockers away] yesterday. I could see it perfectly clear today. As of right now, I'm feeling like I'll be ready to be cleared tomorrow and ready to go this weekend. "
Rzepczynski will visit the eye doctor again Friday. Manager Mike Matheny said Rzepczynski could return to game action this weekend.
