Fantasy Analysis
Rzepczynski, a former starter with the Blue Jays, will likely be utilized over several innings during the middle of the game for St. Louis. The left-hander needed a whopping 36 pitches to complete his outing Thursday and should remain a marginal option in deeper Fantasy formats. (Updated 07/29/2011).
05/20/2012 23:20 Van Slyke's first HR wins it for Dodgers
Pinch-hitter Scott Van Slyke connected for his first major league homer, a go-ahead, three-run shot in the seventh inning against his father's former team, and the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied for a 6-5 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday night.
Hurler Marc Rzepczynski will get a chance to establish himself in the St. Louis bullpen this season after coming over mid-season from Toronto last year. Rzepczynski finished the season with 28 appearances for the eventual World Series champs as he pitched to a 3.97 ERA with an 0-3 record over 22 2/3 innings for the Cardinals. Rzepczynski even went 1-0 in the postseason, winning a game in the NLCS against Milwaukee, with a 4.32 ERA in 12 appearances. Rzepczynski will be an important cog in the bullpen but won't get a chance to close for the Red Birds. Likely the left-handed long man in the pen, Rzepczynski will carry limited Fantasy value into the 2012 season. He'll only be viable in NL-only leagues that care about middle men. (Updated 2/21/12)
