Preseason Outlook

French looked like a halfway respectable starting pitcher with the Tigers, but he fell apart when he went to the Mariners in the Jarrod Washburn deal, posting a 6.63 ERA in eight appearances -- seven of them starts. The 24-year-old lefty could stand to have a little more seasoning in the minors, and he figures to get it with the additions the Mariners have made to their starting rotation this offseason. French projects as no better than a middle-of-the-rotation guy, so he's not exactly a must-stash in AL-only leagues. Still, he could have value later in the season. (Updated 2/2/10)
