Friedrich struggles with control in first loss: After looking sharp and impressing in the first two starts of his career, Rockies pitcher Christian Friedrich had by far the worst start on Saturday, as he allowed eight runs in five innings in a loss to the Mariners. Friedrich walked four in the game, with only 56 of his 100 pitches thrown going for strikes. He also allowed nine hits, including three extra-base hits, one of which was a two-run home run in the second inning off the bat of Kyle Seager. Friedrich wound up giving up eight runs in five innings, while striking out three, to drop his record to 1-1 on the season, as the Rockies fell, 10-3. (Updated 05/19/2012)

Fantasy Analysis
As good as Friedrich was in his first two starts, allowing one run in 13 innings, that is how bad he was on Saturday. Inconsistency is to be expected for a 24-year-old in his first month in the majors. Overall, Friedrich has done a solid job showcasing the talent that has made him one of the better prospects in the Rockies system, as he has struck out 20 batters with just six walks in 18 innings pitched. He will struggle at times, which limits his Fantasy value, however the potential is clear. He should be starting in most NL-only leagues for Fantasy Week 8 (May 21-27), when he heads to Cincinnati to face the Reds for the first time. (Updated 05/19/2012).
