Fantasy Analysis
Hudson was hit pretty hard on Sunday and has actually lost three straight starts dating back to the regular season. Still, the right-hander finished up the year going 16-12 with a 3.49 ERA and registering 169 strikeouts over his 222 innings of work. Fantasy owners should continue to view Hudson as a viable SP option in most mixed-league formats heading into 2012. (Updated 10/03/2011).

In his first extended exposure to major league hitting in 2010, Daniel Hudson's performance looked too good to be true, as he came away with a 2.45 ERA. In his first full year in the bigs, Hudson did decline, but he still showed Fantasy owners that he was worth starting nearly every week in practically all formats. A stinginess with walks allowed Hudson to come away with a 1.20 WHIP, even though he allowed contact at a higher rate than he did in his '10 rookie campaign. Coming into this past season, Hudson's biggest liability may have been his flyball tendencies, but he increased his ground ball rate by four percentage points and allowed just 17 home runs in 222 innings. Even if Hudson doesn't get his strikeout rate back to previous levels or keep his home run rate below average, his ability to command the strike zone makes him a solid choice as a No. 3 SP in mixed leagues.
