Dustin Ackley misses another start

|(9/14/14) Dustin Ackley was out of the Mariners' starting lineup for Sunday's game versus the Athletics. Ackley has played in just one of the team's previous six games, as he has been dealing with bone spurs in his ankle.

|At age 26, Dustin Ackley is entering the now-or-never stage of his career. As the first player selected after Stephen Strasburg in the 2009 draft and an elite prospect during his time in the minors, he was supposed to be an impact bat from the moment he set foot in the big leagues. But after a decent debut in 2011, he has vastly underachieved, even making a return to the minors in 2013. After spending a month re-acclimating to the outfield at Triple-A Tacoma, where he hit .365 with a .972 OPS in 104 at-bats, Ackley returned to the majors in late June, and while his .304 batting average after the All-Star break was encouraging, it still made him only the 23rd-best second baseman in Fantasy during that stretch. Even if he's figured things out as a contact hitter, he'll need to hit for some power to make a worthwhile contribution in Fantasy. The start of his prime can only help. With Nick Franklin and Brad Miller now in Seattle, Ackley's future appears to be in center field, but in Fantasy, he remains most valuable at second base. He's low enough on people's radars to go undrafted in standard mixed leagues, but you'll want to keep an eye on his progress.
