Tigers SS Jose Iglesias ran full bore on Wednesday
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(3/4/15) Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias (shins) told reporters he ran full bore for the first time this spring in Wednesday's Grapefruit League contest against Baltimore, according to Detroit Free Press. He went without a hit in his first two at-bats and left one runner on base in a 5-4 victory.
"I was really happy with the way I ran," Iglesias said.
Tigers' Jose Iglesias to see action on Wednesday
|by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com|
|(3/3/15) Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias will play on Wednesday against the Orioles, according to MLB.com.
Iglesias missed the entire 2014 season due to a shin injury. He'll be eased into action this spring in order to make sure he can handle the workload of regular playing time. Iglesias is expected to play three innings on Wednesday. Iglesias was able to play one inning on Monday.
While he wants to receive a lot of playing time, Iglesias understands the situation. "I would love to play in every single game," he said, "but I've got to be smart about it and take it step by step."
The 25-year-old hit .303 over 350 at-bats back in 2013.
Tigers' Jose Iglesias: It's a great feeling to be back in the lineup
|by Michael Hurcomb | CBSSports.com|
|(3/2/15) Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias, who missed the 2014 season due to fractures in both of his shins, played in a game Monday for the first time in just over a year. He played one inning and grounded out in his only at-bat in a 12-2 win over Florida Southern College, per MLive.com.
"It's fun," Iglesias said. "It's baseball. Eventually I'm going to get my rhythm back when I get some more games in, but otherwise it's a great feeling to be back out there. Just to be in the uniform is amazing."
Tigers' Jose Iglesias runs 'extremely well' Sunday
|by Sean d'Oliveira | CBSSports.com|
|(3/1/15) Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias was able to run the bases Sunday and manager Brad Ausmus said Iglesias ran 'extremely well,' reports the Detroit Free Press.
Ausmus added that Iglesias has shown no side effects from his leg injury. Iglesias missed the entire 2014 season with fractures in his shins.
Tigers SS Jose Iglesias does some on-field work Friday
|by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com|
|(2/27/15) Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias, who used an Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill on Tuesday, finally took to the field on Friday for some baserunning and other workouts, per MLive.com. The 25-year-old shortstop missed all of last season due to fractures in both of his shins.
"We ran bases today, then he took grounders, did the fundamental and he hit," manager Brad Ausmus said. "When he got done hitting, I sent him inside. I didn't want him standing out in the outfield shagging. I don't want to say that's going to be the straw that breaks the camel's back, but any little bit of time we can get him off his feet early helps. So I sent him in about 10 minutes early."
|2014 summary: The Tigers acquired Jose Iglesias in July 2013 in a three-way deal with the Red Sox and White Sox, and he served as their starting shortstop down the stretch that season. Iglesias missed the entire 2014 season due to stress fractures in both shins.|
Playing time status: Iglesias is expected to resume his duties as the Tigers' regular shortstop. He is on track to be ready for spring training.
2015 outlook: Iglesias was never an offensive powerhouse to begin with, and after a year away from game action, one has to wonder if he may get off to a slow start. He is an extreme ground ball hitter whose best chances to provide value are though batting average and stolen bases, and he doesn't have a consistent track record of providing either. Leave Iglesias for your AL-only leagues.
